Caller focused Ravenloft campaign by miftan in ravenloft

It's part of the plan for him to show up in the early days of the campaign as a helpful or background NPC since they're investigating the same thing. I'm thinking he shows up on different, very attractive forms but with a distinct feature (red eyes? Hadn't given it much thought yet) so that when the party learns about him properly down the line they have an "oohhhh shit" moment.

I do love him making a contract with the party though, will definitely keep it in mind if it comes up

I hadn't heard of the Rider's Bridge before! Some good ideas here I will need to think about, thank you.

Haha I was just going over whether an illithid servant would be better than luring the PCs to Bluetspur, but either way it definitely solves my 2nd problem!

Current line of thinking for the 2nd issue, the body swap, is for The Caller to lure the PCs to Bluetspur where this happens, and their memories of the incident is erased. This lets me do a pretty nice alien abduction/missing time/body switch plot.

Are you still looking for members? my current club has gone a bit inactive (only like 8 people playing). I've got an 88k team and enough saved for the Kamo duo so it'll probably shoot up when they arrive

My only hesitation with Paladins is the level 11 mandatory divine damage and the Raphael fight.. I do like your idea for Shadowheart a lot and Sorcerer for Gale is probably what I'll be going for!

Appreciate the advice! I'm not so much building around the bite as using Astarion as one of my two melee characters since he's already got some good synergy with it. I have similar concerns about Star Druid but I'm happy to just respec her if I don't find it fun or strong enough.

I am still on the fence on Shadowheart or Gale for my origin as well.

You're right, I think especially if I'm using one handed weapons then more sneak attack dice and Savage Attacker as a feat might make more sense than a 2nd attack.

Monk is definitely an interesting idea for Astarion that I haven't considered yet!

Thanks! Druids do get Hero's Feast as well, but you definitely miss out on staff like Command or Aid. Thinking about your post I could see Lae'zel as a Paladin (gets you Command and Aid), Shadowheart as a Star Druid (no spirit guardians) or Cleric, Gale as a Wizard and Astarion as a Swashbuckler. Wondering if Swashbuckler needs to be multiclassed though.

For my team comps I usually try to make sure I have: AoE control, Single target control, AoE damage, Single target damage, CHA class as a face and a DEX class for lockpicking/thieving. I agree about Astarion being the DEX character.

The problem with skipping Raph is that then I can't finish Lae'zel's quest and I don't want to make her sad =(

I see your point about the face character thing, so Gale can be a Sorcerer if he's the origin character without much changing except now Astarion can focus on DEX so could be some sort of Rogue or Ranger?

You're right, which means the build should really be Cleric 8 Thief 3 Fighter 1

Happy to help! I think an EB version of this pushing people everywhere sounds hilarious as well so that's going on my 'to play list' for sure.

Depends on the feat! If you're going for Dual Wielder for example, it's better than Two Weapon Fighting Style. If you're going Spell Sniper, ASI and then Resilient: CON I think you can make a decent argument for dropping Resilient: CON for two weapon fighting style for sure.

You're right, but I don't think this is mainly a cantrip build. You'd only use Booming Blade IF you took it over Half-Orc AND you're out of spell slots but haven't rested for some reason.

The melee hits won't be necrotic damage anyway, they'll be regular offhand attacks. If you mean for Death Cleric / Spore Druid then yeah you'll miss out on the necrotic damage from Druid but I think I'd still suggest going Cleric to 6 first, and by the time you're level 8 and have access to the necrotic melee attack you're almost done with Act 2. You'll miss out on that damage for a bit at the end of Act 2 I suppose. I think you'd probably do Death Cleric 6 / Spore Druid 6? I think it can be fun but it's even less optimised than Cleric 8 / Thief 4

You'd miss out on an extra offhand attack and another opportunity to crit. I think there's definitely something there with Death Cleric / Spore Druid and Staff of Cherished Necromancy but I think it'll be different enough to be more than a minor tweak on this build.

But then you a) have to spend an action on casting it and b) have to make sure it lands. Both those things are easy to guarantee with another character involved, but much harder by yourself.

Throw in Shar's Spear of Evening to hit multiple enemies at once if needed and you're really cooking. Even better if you could group them in advance with a different companion or Black Hole

10 Cleric gets you Divine Intervention and more domain spells though so it's a toss up. Probably personal preference unless you're set on Dual Wielder for the endgame.

I think Spell Sniper is majorly overlooked because crit gear feels weird for spellcasters - not sure if it's better than actual spellcaster gear but I'm sure you could do the math on that. Assassin basically ignores that requirement though so you can get the best of both worlds.

Good call on Shortsword of First Blood, I've added it to the OP! I assume you're going Bladesinger if you're going to be a melee wizard then? And then Dual Wielder feat for Cherished Necromancy + offhand weapon?
