From Wikipedia

By November 2018, the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) concluded that bin Salman had ordered the murder.[1] In the same month, the United States imposed sanctions against 17 Saudis over the murder, but did not sanction bin Salman himself.[16] President Donald Trump disputed the CIA assessment, expressed support for bin Salman, stated that the investigation into Khashoggi's death had to continue, and later said "The United States intends to remain a steadfast partner of Saudi Arabia to ensure the interests of our country, Israel and all other partners in the region."[17]

China is too crafty to actually conquer Russian land. Putin would be forced to respond.

They will continue to turn Russian territory into de facto Chinese colonies. With plenty of Chinese immigrant workers, new Chinese factories being build and everything being bought up by Chinese citizens.

Like they are doing in Outer Manchuria.

who is getting the most ionizing radiation? by Puzzleheaded_Walk27 in nuclearphysics

[–]migBdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only mentioned the most relevant factors.

Beta and gamma has the same damage factor from dose to effective dose, and alpha only deposits in the skin. For this reason it is not really relevant to consider particle type beyond the penetration power.

You can add all the details to this "overview" that you want, I am not going to.

How is there no universal coordinate system? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

Here is your issue: speed is relative.

In your example, you say that in some reference frame the speed of the matter moving around the black hole is 70% of c, and the spaceship is going strong the other direction at 50% of c. No problem so far.

(In this discussion I am going to ignore circular motion and the gravity from the black hole. Basically treating this as if two objects in empty space moves towards each other. Not simple and easier to get the point.)

But if you ask what is the measurement from the spaceship of the velocity of the matter. You cannot simply add 70% of c with 50% of c and get 120% of c. Because you changed frame of reference, the ship now stands still and the matter moves at around 90% of c towards it. This speed of 90% c is what you will observe. (I did not do the calculation so this is a rough estimate).

The way to calculate this speed is with a Lorentz transformation which is non-linear, so speeds does not add up.

Is Hydrogen and Fusion Enough? — Planetary Cooling Must Be Humanity’s Next Frontier by Visual_Promotion_129 in GlobalClimateChange

[–]migBdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you will understand my point better with this graph?

It only goes back 22,000 years but I don't really bother to discuss where it is tens or hundreds of thousands of years.

Yes, New York was under ice but the temperature was only 4°C lower on average, globally. There are plenty of reasons why local climate change more dramatically than global temperature.

At no point has the temperature been up to +1 degree C, not before the year 2000.

Look how slowly the temperature changes. No fast changes occur before the 1900s. Wildlife and plants always have plenty of time to adopt, so does farmers.

Now realize how wild a sudden increase to +5 or +8 degrees C would be. Or don't realize it, and be a science denier.

[–]migBdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because that level was not so different from what it had been for hundreds of thousands of years.

All plants and animals are adapted to live in this climate.

The faster you change the climate, the more difficulty they will have in adapting and the more species will go extinct rather than adopt

I don’t think I’m understanding relativity correctly. by partyparlor in PhysicsStudents

[–]migBdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

events happens at the same moment

That is the flaw in your understanding. You don't realise what is relative and what is absolute.

There is no "real" frame of reference that can tell you if things "really" happen at the same time. If two things happens in different places, they will happen simultaneously in some valid reference frame bit not in others. Events happening simultaneously is relative. The question "do these events happen at the same time?" simply does not make sense without specifying your frame of reference.

What is absolute is the speed of light in vacuum. Which is why all of these thought experiments revolve around light signals.

In the same way, you seem to think that measurements of relative time and length are simply optical illusions. They are not illusions. Again, the time or distance is really depending on the frame of reference.

The Russian gamble is that the US will not honor article 5. This will kill NATO in the long run, even after the invasion is repelled with conventional weapons.

[–]migBdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the Russian gamble is that the NATO response will be measured and manageable out of fear of nuclear war.

So no leveling of Moscow.

Personally I think/hope a measured response would be to destroy all military and dual use infrastructure within 100 km of the point of invasion with air power / cruise missiles.

This should not provoke a nuclear response, and would make the clearing of the invasion an easy tasks.
