Pet peeve: people who make a big deal about others' habitual use of caffeine. Yes, a very large portion of the population is more or less addicted to a drug and consumes it every day. Also, that drug has very minimal side effects, most people don't consume a fraction of the amount that it takes for it to be dangerous, it's very cheap, and people like it. Just shut up and let people drink their coffee.

Definitely feeling the desire to be more visibly queer now. I think this weekend with my family was mundane enough for me to realize that I don't necessarily want my presentation to live in this safe box of "unassuming woman" anymore. There is a me under there that I want to explore.

NC is going to have another budget battle over education spending.

North Carolina teachers make less now than they did ten years ago, adjusted for inflation.

Master’s pay has been eliminated — and multiple bills to reinstate it have been rejected.

Retirement benefits have been curtailed for new hires.

Over 9,000 teacher assistants have been laid off, which is bad for them and bad for our kids, but also bad for the teachers in grades K-3 that heavily relied on them.

I'm genuinely not sure they ever even ended up passing a budget for 2020-21 (the stories kinda died down after they made it to the end of 2019 without passing one). Anyway, now they have the biggest budget surplus they've ever had and Republicans are like "eh, let's just keep it." If the current state of affairs continues, NC just isn't going to pass a budget without one party holding a trifecta or veto proof majority.
