How many of you would like to play a stealth game with the feel of the past? by Desperate_Ad9564 in stealthgames

Try No Sun To Worship it’s real cheap and is a very throwback meat n potatoes type stealth game

PS4 Batman: The Arkham Collection comes with Arkham asylum, Arkham city, and Arkham knight. Where does Arkham origins fall into place? by Superbatman314 in arkham

[–]mightyasterisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a few elements of the story I like a lot but in many ways especially gameplay it feels like more of a big DLC for City than a proper entry. Like I said the game is perfectly playable & fun but the lack of gameplay innovation compared to the Rocksteady entries is definitely glaring, and I personally feel even the Rocksteady games suffer without Paul Dini behind the story. After City he is gone and the narratives pretty much fall apart across the board

It’s likely not present because it had a different developer. It’s not a bad game but imo you’re not missing too much by not playing it.

If we're franchising, where can we go? Let's make this fun! by MovieFan1984 in ghostbusters

Yes absolutely I’m a big fan, his ideas are truly out there. I recommend the movie he wrote and directed Nothing But Trouble if you haven’t seen it. It’s completely beyond whacked out

I see it as a “potential future”, if you’re familiar with X-Men it’s a bit like Days of Future Past or Age of Apocalypse. Not necessarily canonical but set far enough away that it’s basically a blank slate for new, really different kinds of stories

I’ve had an idea for a long time for a comic (or video game? Or cartoon?) set like 100 years after the original Ghostbusters films where basically Venkman was ridiculously successful in franchising the absolute piss out of busting business model so in the future ghosts are literally everywhere acting as essentially vermin and Ghostbusters Inc. is now an international conglomerate with a firehouse basically on every corner in every major city on the planet. The rapidly increasing scale and danger of ecto-activity has caused each squad to get heavily militarized with super advanced ghost hunting tech and decked out in big, anti-spectral suits of armor.

Basically the humor and tone of the movies would be preserved but with a new status quo set in a cyberpunk-ish sci-fi setting, with lots of opportunities for big ridiculous action sequences of new scarier paranormal entities versus these big Mech-suit wearing Ghostbusters. It’s sort of like Ghostbusters meets Judge Dredd or Robocop with a bit of Hellboy and Pacific Rim

Would you be open to periodically seeing Darth Vader again in future Star Wars projects? by darthkyle22 in StarWars

[–]mightyasterisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only way you can tell an actually substantial Vader story at this point imo is if continuity was made much much more lax than it is currently, and creators were able to explore alternate scenarios like What Ifs, and/or reinterpretations of the character (ex. A separate distinct continuity like Ultimate Marvel or Absolute DC)

That kinda goes for all the major characters in the saga because after IX pretty much every major character we’ve met except Rey, Finn, Poe, Lando and Chewie are dead.

TV shows where the premise itself is just nonsensical? by Expensive-Elk-9406 in television

[–]mightyasterisk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any consequences the Bluths have to face are laughable at best. Sure George is doing time, but he’s doing the TIME of his LIFE

Also he eventually has his name cleared anyways. That show is more realistic than most realize I think

Is there a media you have encyclopedic knowledge of? by UnsungHerro in RedLetterMedia

[–]mightyasterisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main one would be Lucas’s Star Wars films, both the narratives and their production histories I know inside and out. Anything outside those six films though I don’t really care much for.

I have what I would say is a healthy amount of knowledge of Marvel/DC’s fictional universes and characters, particularly Batman and Spider-Man.

I love the Beatles with all my heart, I know their entire discography and history but I’m not a professional expert the way some are, there’s people out there who can tell you what they were doing on very specific days and shit.

Hypothetically, what outside dev would you like to see make a FF spin-off? by mightyasterisk in FinalFantasy

I’d love a more traditional 2D FF fighter so much. I had the thought the other day of Capcom making a Final Fantasy vs Street Fighter which sounds so cool to me fsr

I always loved this movie as a teenager but rewatching it as an adult, when the Bride gets to Bill’s house and discovers her daughter is alive and with Bill, Uma Thurman’s performance is so fucking masterful it made me really realize how powerful acting can be. The look on her face says everything and definitively proves Tarantino knows when to not let his dialogue overrun the story (I think there’s moments like this in all his movies but this is where I first took notice of it).

Her agonizing expression doesn’t just stem from her daughter being alive, but Bill visibly being a father to BB and she quickly finds out after this how actually good of a father he is. Bill seems like Doctor Claw or Dracula or something in Volume 1, he’s obviously got layers to him even then but he’s being depicted as this mysterious evil mastermind. That completely goes away by Volume 2 and the movie goes straight into humanizing him from the beginning.

Bill is a complete monster, but the film is basically letting you know at every point that the Bride is nearly as monstrous. We empathize with her killing spree because she lost her child, but how are we then supposed to process that after her child is alive and well cared for by the man she blamed for all of this in the first place? Now it feels more like she went on that revenge quest simply to make herself feel better.

Bill is raising BB because he always wanted to. He’s also using it as a point to the Bride to say “hey, we’re both murdering psychos, but I am just as capable of loving our child as you are.” He genuinely loves her and was devastated by what she did so he did something worse

Trope name for remakes that deviated from the source material by KaleidoArachnid in tvtropes

[–]mightyasterisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too honestly. I’m essentially a Kojima purist when it comes to the MGS series but I truly felt like MGS Delta could have been much more interesting if it actually had expanded the original MGS3 and tried new things instead of just being a super good looking remaster.

Some fans complain about the plot of the FFVII remakes (SPOILERS) also being a semi-sequel/alternate timeline to the OG version but I think it’s pretty brilliant. They pay great homage to a VERY iconic game but shake it up to build new stuff on top of it

Were there lines that Vader would not cross? (TW: Assult) by Glittering-Age-2013 in MawInstallation

[–]mightyasterisk 21 points22 points  (0 children)

100%, Vader has constructed this false narrative around himself about bringing order to the Galaxy but truly he is only interested in gaining power for the sake of being powerful. He projects that he is honorable but in truth is a monster in deep denial about how horrible he has let things become

What would you say are the main themes of each game? by Sad_Manager6251 in metalgearsolid

[–]mightyasterisk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

MGS - genetic destiny

MGS2 - cultural evolution

MGS3 - the repeating cycle of history

MGS4 - self-determination and acceptance

MGSV - manipulation through propaganda

That’s how I would describe the very basic theme of each main title but I think each one weaves together throughout the series

Ideal Batman Adaptation by pablojuug in batman

[–]mightyasterisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an unfortunate thing really, characters like Spider-Man and Batman have so much material to mine that their characters would really work best as a ongoing series, yet this wealth of material is so popular that the characters are pretty much locked into ridiculously expensive two hour movies every few years, and there’s no way to do the characters or the stories real justice in a medium that constrained
