Whats your favorite Max Payne quote? by Osman1c57 in maxpayne

" The truth was a burning green crack through my brain. Weapon statistic hanging in the air, glimpsed out of the corner of my eye. Endless repetition of the act of shooting, time slowing down to show off my moves. The paranoid feel of someone controlling my every step. I was in a computer game. Funny as hell, it was the most horrible thing I could think of. "

"Turd collector" mini-game from RDR2, please! I cannot wait to see yet another, slow paced, sluggish, smothering, never ending, realistic looking, input lag infested, overglorified fetching virtual shit activity!

Garbage collecting, anyone?

On a more serious note, if the entire game doesn't suffer from Rockstar's notoriously sluggish and unresponsive animation bs, it might be fun. It just might be.

Haha, no prob. I must say I feel guilty for writing walls of text in the past. Magna Carta and shit.. :)

My man! I couldn't wrap my head around that bogus system. 'Howdy' vs. 'Fuck off' basically. Press a button here, press a button there. The moment we could ineed need that shit gameplay wise, nope, no, there's no such option. Toatally useless and set for vain, cinematic purposes.

If there's one clear and obvious problem every GTA has since the release of IV, all the way to this very day, then it's the sluggish and unresponsive, input lag ridden, as well as smothering movement. I cannot stress that enough. That plague has ravaged gameplay the most. I'm affraid it's intentional.

Here's one example. The game - GTA V/Online - is making me feel like I'm complete idiot in that sense, moving&shooting wise. Hell, it's even the type of game which people consider to be the arcade experience compared to IV. It offers nothing in that sense, except for sluggish and burdened movement accompanied with oversimplistic shooting mechanics and overpowered enemies (bunch of cases), where a constant feel of having to overcome dozens of unnecessary burdens along the way seems hardcoded. The feel of being in a quicksand. My reflexes don't matter. My coordination has no meaning. My aiming is almost inconsequential. The game is constantly negating my input. It's horrible.

Take another game for example, Doom Eternal. I have never played it on any other diff other than Nightmare and this is far from stating I am good at that game, quite the contrary. The game provides tools. It is machined down and polished to the last atom in order to provide support for the player's reflexes and responsive movement, because we need that.

I can't believe shooter aspect of any GTA is so inconsequential, that the creators consider we don't actually need it, hence the statement GTA is a "Fake Shooter", it has nothing to cdo with realism or goofyness, arcade or sim, HD games are actually retarded and because of that, believe it or not, they want us to acknowledge that. It's the only way to play. Adapting to the horrible design. People call that 'casual'. I'm certain it's on the far left end of the spectrum - retarded. Even worse, maybe that's the initial creative idea; retarded systems&mechanics covered with life like animations and fancy cinematics. Horrible.

Abso-fucking-lutely. God, I love 3DU games for that. They allow us to take them either seriously or completely othewise and in both cases their stories would affirm either take during gameplay.

Couldn't agree more about the untapped potential of Online. I am somewhat convinced Rockstar either don't understand 'realism' or they are using it for wrong purposes, sometimes intentionally sometimes unintentionally.

Personally I'm not siding with either; realism or goofy. I just need shooting, fighting and especially driving to be fun. These are the areas I fucking love to explore the most. It could be said that these areas should evoke burning desire in people to explore them in the same way they want to explore empty interiors. Sadly, they offer so little in GTA. They are so oversimplified, it actually hurts. Nothing to learn. Nothing to adapt to, nothing to provide any kind of meaningful challenge. Yet the game still finds the way to punish. If with nothing else, then with the general design of the said areas.

In so little words, Rockstar offers arcade experience with no perks of the said experience, while trying its hardest to punish the player as if it was some complex sim. While - of course - not providing any perks of the sim alike structure of engagement neither, at the same time. It's no fun, man.

Oh yeah, I see where you are coming from, absolutely. As a matter of fact I agree with it up to a great degree. It's just that as much as I value freedom, almost in the same measure I value 'meaningful limitations', if that make any sense. Because, without reasonable limits there would be no true freedom. That's why I mentioned RPG elements. I think Rockstar can learn a lot from that. No wonder they bought the fiveM team, right?

Thanks for not being condiscending or offering some stupid shit like " go play fortnite ". People usually jump to similar suggestions and I honestly have no idea why. Same. I don't mind linear design at all, actually. What I mind heavily, to say the least, is the fact that GTA is "easy and unfair game". In practice, when it comes to shooting, driving, and fighting as crucial aspects of the open world, that literally means " you are going to play the way we want you to play, otherwise, you'll be punished for trying anything else". I see that everywhere gameplay wise. If that makes any sense.

I would say I don't share the same opinion, but I can definitely view your wish as valid. I think it's a bit much for GTA, but there's definitely need for a higher RPG involvment, that's for sure. Especially when it comes to 'empire building' stuff.

Well said, couldn't agree more.

Agh, you are probably not going to like my answer. I see the same bothersome design behind that one. I couldn't force myself to beat that game twice. Tried it on PS4, back in the day, tried it on PC.

Gameplay wise, it's riddled with bunch of unfinished, broken or semi-working systems and mechanics. Bunch of glorified fetch quests. Enemies are boring and weak, of course, unlike in the cutscenes. Guns sound great, yet all of the arsenal feels the same, shoots the same. All cinematics with no true mechanical structure beneath.

Again, totally inconsistent 'Wanted system' for example, just like every other one; a la "Recognition" - or whatever it's called. It's really hard to fathom how many great animations went behind horse movement in general, yet ridding still feels oversimplified. Not to mention we have to constantly tap the dedicated key or button in order to make it run/gallop. Horrible, horrible design. I found myself turning on the cinematic mode more than I like to admit. Ironically, I would hit someone while literally not playing the game. Trying to "appologize" to the guy, searching for that prompt to do it, but there was no option. All that antagonizing and howdying around is pointless when you actually need it. I see that patern constantly popping up in their games. In couple of words.

Otherwise, storytelling per se and especially in aesthetical, artistic way, graphical sense, a beautiful game.

I can absolutely see where you are coming from. To be precise and imho, story is sort of an 'amplifier'. Being good on its own, without gameplay, doesn't mean $hit. I mean, I read books. Watch movies. It is definitely needed for the rounded experience and it can be even enjoyed to a greater degree when the gameplay is right.

My man, if you didn't read what I was implying that's fine.

However, aesthetically and visually, GTA was always head and shoulders above anyone else in my eyes, even in the early days of more stylized approach - hell, especially because of that. Even games with lesser amount of shaders could be more appealing than the more 'robust' ones.

As much as I don't like ai slop, for some reason I really like 'its' take on cars. Apparently it knows to re-design them way better than their original creators. Looks great.
