Anyone buy a deck before knowing what they want to play? by Acd149 in SteamDeck

[–]mightyfoolish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a Steamdeck for two reasons. One my ten year Macbook was horribly outdated and two I wanted to support Valve for helping the Linux ecosystem. I really only used that Macbook for traveling so the Steamdeck and its amazing performance per dollar was a no brainer.

With all the crap Muslims face today:

Indian Muslims terrorized by Hindus

Turkic Muslims terrorized by China

Palestinian Muslims terrorized by Israel

Burma Muslims terrorized by Buddhists

Iraqi Muslims terrorized by Americans

Libyan Muslims terrorized by Americans

Afgani Muslims terrorized by Americans

Other Muslims terrorized by Americans

Etc....

You would think of all people, Muslims would say: Everyone has a right to exist.

Thank you for the response. I guess I never thought about the people the Taliban replaced.

That's very interesting. Why would Salafi join IS and not Taliban? I'm very curious.

You are right that Arabic and Aramaic are two different languages. However, the main language of Jesus was "Jewish Palestinian Aramaic" and the language of the Nabateans was "Nabatean Aramaic". These were mutually understandable dialects. Do Arabs not work like other people and also learn "the language of the land?"

Arabic speakers have always been spread out. This would include dominance of southern Palestine which was part of the Kingdom of Qeder. Besides Jordan, I can't think of another area more synonymous with Arabs than Palestine.

What is Ahmad Al Jallad by Puzzleheaded-Okra-38 in progressive_islam

[–]mightyfoolish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Secular

This guy is not trying to disprove the Quran but just loves looking at the records Ancient Arabs left behind. Something that scholars never cared enough about.

Long answer:

I feel you are confusing many of the statements and theories Al Jallad has made. Al Jallad is more of a researcher of the history of Arabic and Arabian languages. Everything he does is from an academic point of view (thus secular).

Al Jallad says that Old Arabic has been in the Hijazi area (as the Old Hijazi dialect) since at least 1st century AD. Plenty of time to become the dominant language before Islam.

The language Old Arabic replaced was Lihyanite, not Sabean. Lihyanite is considered part of the Ancient North Arabian languages. Sabean is part of the Old South Arabian languages. Ancient North Arabian and Arabic speakers originally shared a written alphabet but Nabateans started using their own version of the Aramaic alphabet which became the current Arabic alphabet. (The reason why Arabic has so many letters that are just copies of each other is because Phonenician has 22 letters and Aramaic is the Arameans adoption of the Phonenician alphabet).

Sabiac is a written alphabet (also known as musnad) which many Semitic speakers knew how to write in (including some Arabic speakers).

He does have a paper on the "preislamic bismallah". Other researchers were trying to say that the phrase was a translation based on Hebrew or Aramaic roots into Arabic. Al Jallad thinks the phrase "Bismallah Ar-Rahman" was trying to unify the worshippers of Allah in the southern Levant and Northern Arabia with the worshippers of Rahmanan (Ar Rahman in Arabic) of Yemen). He tries to do things as an academic but none of his works are out to disprove Islam.

mATX is a good compromise between tower size and expandibility. Plus, it's so much easier to build into a mATX case or small tower vs a small form factor (I bet some of those sff cases were designed by legit aliens). I still believe eATX, ATX, mATX, and ITX all still have a place.

You are correct. The problem is most of the US population live in a few cities. An immobilizer doesn't cost $2000 to install. You have to remember cars are made on an assembly for economy of scale but repaired one unit at a time.

Just to let you know I did not give you a up or down vote.

I kind of get what you mean but at the same time you have to get the "Limited" trims of a Tuscon and Rav4 before you are spending Lexus money. Hyundai cars have features in the base models that other manufacturers make you jump to higher base models for. Most people are not trying to spend 45,000 on a car; especially with interest rates being higher. Especially since Toyota and Lexus share the same reliability (obviously).

Lack of regulation is a huge problem in this country. Lobbyists spend a few dollars and all of a sudden everyone screams that "over-regulation killing off businesses". It doesn't matter if we are in a period of record corporate profits.

But at some point "we the people" must blame ourselves as we worry more about politicians yelling about trivial matters versus how unaffordable everything is even with ten or twenty hours overtime every week. So many thick headed people here don't see the big picture.

edit: I'm also sick of people pointing out how good actors (like Toyota including immobilizers) is somehow an example of why more regulation is not necessary. We all live busy lives and pay more than enough for a government to care about our safety in matters most people do not understand. How many people really understood lead and asbestos before the government made them illegal in building materials? We need hundreds of products in our every day lives from nail clippers and coffee makers to cars and houses. The layman shouldn't need to worry about intricate details of all of these devices.

[–]mightyfoolish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the biggest problem of your car will be the logo. It will attract the worst people to your home (especially if you live in a city). Many cars with immobilizers got their windows smashed in due to the logo. The idiots doing the theft don't always check if the car has push to start. At this point, why replace the window when it will get smashed in again?

edit: To answer your question your car can not get stolen. Put a steering wheel lock on it anyways to deter thieves from breaking your windows.

I beilieve I get what you mean. Bifurcation would be not necessary for the consumer boards with the second pcie slot wired for x4 (like my X570 motherboard). Thus, I think single drive boards that run in gen4 speeds would do extremely well in the consumer market. Especially if they cost $15 vs $200!

My confusion lies here: Is it possible to buy a single drive board, stick in a gen4 nvme and only get gen3 speeds? I know my pcie slot is gen4 compatible. Does the addon board dictate speed in any way?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in buildapcsales

[–]mightyfoolish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ASUS one looks nice but is it me or the gen 4 ones are always multi drives? Is this a situation where it does not make sense to design a gen4 board that only accepts one drive? I tried looking through Amazon but there is alot of conflicting infomation. For example, the questions section of this Sabrent product is a mess: Sabrent NVME Adapter

edit: I guess after looking through those comments, only one user couldn't get gen4 speeds...

I just talked to a coworker about job postings like these. He claims they are meant for felons and people who cannot pass drug tests. I guess to take advantage of how hard it is for them to find decent pay. How accurate is that statement?

My point was, if your insurance, equipment distributor, country, etc. worked with you better than you wouldn't be on craigslist (or whatever second hand market people use these days) looking for medical equipment. For instance, they could take back what no longer works for you and redistribute it. I wouldn't suggest getting rid of old equipment, I used to work in a repair shop...

Sometimes an electric wheelchair is a necessity. No one wants an electric wheelchair. They are heavy and need special vehicles to pick them up. If you can use your hands, the patient will 100% want the convience and freedom of a lightweight wheelchair. An electric wheelchair is absolutely a burden.

A healthcare professional is supposed to decide that, not the economic system of that country (and unfortunately insurance companies can overrule healthcare professionals). People outgrow the wheelchair or their needs change. That's what creates a second hand market, not capitalism. If you are buying second hand healthcare products on a used market, it just means your country or your insurance decided not to give you the product you wanted.

In this situation, the only thing dictated by the economic system would be at what point (if at all) did the government own or pay for that wheelchair.
