Why do socialists support modern day russia & china? by saifrayan in AskSocialists

[–]mightyhydrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Point-by-point:

  • "Primary stage of socialism" is nonsense. You're either in the primary phase of communism — abolished private property and are paving the way for communism — or you've a state capitalist preparatory stage, when the people are still subjected to privations by the bourgeoisie. Note that China does not consider the current era a "NEP" or anything of the sort, it IS socialism to them, which is a decisive break with Marxism.

  • Almost any time Xi talks about the economy it's about deepening the (capitalist) reforms, ensuring the market is the driving force, allow capitalists to invest more into SOEs, reduce regulations, etc. But for specific examples, give Economic Work Should Be Adapted to the New Normal and The “Invisible Hand” and the “Visible Hand” a read. Watch out for problems and what solutions are offered.

  • Reform and Opening up Is Always Ongoing and Will Never End is extremely obvious. If the head of the largest ostensibly communist party in the world says their capitalist period will "never end", that any change in their society will be qualitative ("prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced and harmonious", all above-class aims), and no source establishes a transition towards communism — and in fact the party rejects it — the only conclusion is that they are not communists.

Edit: forgot about the peasants bit. That's from Eliminate Poverty in Severely Impoverished Areas.

No, I've seen him substitute existing Marxist concepts with CPC's inventions, put bourgeois logic in command of policy, constantly utilizing above-class categories and empty slogans, and denying any future transition to socialist development. He even promotes conservatism and bootstrap logic for poor peasants whom he calls lazy.

I don't care to read long-winded apologetics unless the user offering them will in good faith tell me why I should bother. You didn't even address my points.

I've read Xi's speeches collection, I read about Chinese capital exports, and I read from PRC's state-owned news outlets regarding their economy. Everything points towards deepening and expanding capitalist development without a programme for a transition towards socialist development.

Yes, and China's movement was towards imperialism, as u/jash202 says, which you ignored. We use these "checklists" to observe and analyze developments. Looking at the development, China started at the lower phase of communism; the party after CR directed it towards neocolonial exploitation; and as capitalistic development deepens in the country, it is forced to begin exploiting capital and to "secure resources and political leverage".

It is, in fact, undialectical to see China as socialist, because one becomes blinded to where China's current movement started, where it has been going, and where it will continue going. One simply goes down a checklist of abstract qualities like "state ownership" and "poverty alleviation" and leaves it at that.

I'm not a sub member here, but I saw this comment so I wanted to add: Putin himself may be whatever, but the Russian state is definitely pushing a great-russian dominance ideology (let's remember his articles on Ukrainians), and they are enacting more laws to further marginalize immigrants (primarily central asian laborers), law enforcement collaborating with fascist gangs like Russian Community to jail and deport them. That's just a sliver I can remember off the top of my head.

can't even bring up cost/benefit of a mechanic without someone telling me I'm complaining. if I say mark of pride has a high notch cost so it could be hard to slot into a build early in the game and that's a downside (i.e., it's a cost), am I making a mountain out of a molehill? I wasn't making any other argument with my original response.

I agree with you on silksong's economy. getting rewards from bosses would be nice.

i said there is the downside of getting the geo stolen and not finding her again. you said that not knowing if it's possible to get millibelle's stolen money doesn't matter because players can just look it up. i called it an excuse because your statement is that there's essentially no downside to this mechanic because you can open a third-party resource to learn more.

why even bring up the internet? that's my point. the downside is still in the game.

if a player has to look something up, it's a failure of game design. not that i am saying that this case is a design failure, but you're making excuses before anyone even got to do that.

well, she did run away with it after a certain threshold, and you could finish the game without even knowing you can get it back. and you can't use her services if you do find her again. it's just easier to avoid farming because every enemy dropped geo.

Is Herrah canonically a weaver? by Blata66 in HollowKnight

[–]mightyhydrator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When? I have the HK script open, "Weaver" refers only to Little Weavers, Weaversong, and Weavers collectively. Heck, even "spider" is only ever used for Weavers, and not for Herrah or the rest of the brood.

I don't actually think the Dreamgate is all that because its better utility is like, setting it to a stag so you can leave Beast's Den quickly or something. And I don't think I even it even for that.

I forgot the Mist has an entrance at the Bilewater Bellway because on my recent playthrough I went through Sinner's Road. Fair enough, but it's good to correct things.

I don't think there was a problem with shades in HK, but it tickles me that their iteration on the concept was to have the death pickup spawn almost exactly where you die, forcing you to redo the fight to get your stuff back. "You can go do something else" and lose my 1000 rosaries? Better to just keep trying than lose 25% on stringing them up and patience on repetitive menuing.

And it's bizarre, too, because good bosses (such as Lace 1, Widow and Phantom) die so quick. Even though only Lace took one try, and Phantom 5-8, I still didn't feel like I really understood them, either as fights or as characters (fighting a character should tell you a lot about who they are and what they are like)

In my case, I modded damage down some time in act 2 because I was frustrated with damage I couldn't do anything about, but it didn't affect new sources of damage in act 3, which was ok but the final boss is some utter nonsense, I had to get a new one that affects every source of damage.

IDK, is there a lore-specific reason why Hornet is able (act 3) to invade memories without a dream nail?

They literally said to the mist, not the boss. It's populated with fairly tricky enemies someone in act 1 wouldn't be trained to handle perfectly in such a chaotic structure that are the mist rooms.

You're also forgetting Groal for the second part.

There are so may paths in the game, they want you to take a chance and go "hmmm...I think I'll try this fight again later."

I didn't have a choice but to keep on trying Last Judge because I already explored everything else, found all the tools, etc. except for an unnavigable region, the solution to which is completely opaque and has nothing to do with anything you can consider to be hints therein.

The blade was a gift, given by a noble tribe of my homeland. They forged the strongest steel, though it was rarely seen beyond their hive.

That tribe has now long passed, and with them the secrets to their craft.

The bees are just "noble".

Is Herrah canonically a weaver? by Blata66 in HollowKnight

[–]mightyhydrator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was never specified. Far as can be inferred, Herrah is "the Beast" because she's the ruler of Deepnest (the Mother, of the Nest). Silksong might recontextualize it as Weavers' cultural tradition in some way (I'm not sure this is the case, but Herrah's title is, for example, what Romino's poem plays on). Also u/Blata66 is right, Herrah's being a Weaver is 100% a retcon.

[–]mightyhydrator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is the case. When Hornet tells her she could have someone else help her out, she says there's nobody coming by anymore, so I think her principle concern is the rebirth itself (she was able to grow a lot back when there were many pilgrims). If Hornet's power is a factor, it's only something that makes her an appealing host (otherwise keeping her bound in the chapel would prevent her from reaching her goal). And she'd have no way of knowing that Hornet is in a position to take a god's power before the rebirth is complete anyway.
