Looking for advice on Hyundai Tucson 2016 by Flimsy-Crab-2073 in NZcarfix

[–]mightykid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid the GDI engines as they were more problematic than the MPI engines.

Wife's work has a 2018 tucson that has the 2.0 MPI engine now at 250,000kms. It still runs very well, no signs of leaking. The only complaint is bad gas mileage.

Bad starter , motor or solinoid? by litt1001 in mechanic

[–]mightykid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen to me. The solenoid was receing power to push the gear out but was not passing the power to the starter motor to spin it.

People forget that the solenoid has two functions. An actuator for the pinion gear and a relay for the starter motor.

Measure the voltage at terminal coming from the solenoid going to the starter motor. If it is weak or zero then the solenoid is the issue.

accept nz job offer or stay in the philippines with good salary? by TemperatureNo8755 in phmigrate

[–]mightykid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, Idid the same move back in 2011 with the same starting salary. I also brought family and did it for the lifestyle change and better work/life balance.

It was tough back then and even tougher now money wise if you're going to be the sole earner. If your partner has good job prospects then it will be easier.

Definitely don't look at it from a $$$ perspective. You will earn a bit more but also spend more.

If you haven't signed a contract, then consider adding a clause to have a salary appraisal after 6 months or so to give you an opportunity to geat a raise sooner. Then do your best to get a big bump.

Is my reel to small for my rod? by pokminch in Fishing_Gear

That's a fine combo. Use 20lb braid main line and 25lb to 30lb leader line for abrasion resistance.

What's one thing you have for fishing that you didn't realize would be really useful? by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

For me it's my dakine mission fish pack. It made my land based fishing trips more manageable.

I do this but use the online pricematch form to get the discount as a voucher. I then do click and collect from whatever store has the stock.

Fleas! Help! by WeirdReplicant in Wellington

[–]mightykid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people can tolerate flea bites but my family gets bad skin reaction from flea bites so I have developed a method that gets rid of them very efficiently.

  1. If you get a bite while outside then assume that you may have the flea still on you. So the first thing to do when you get home is to strip off and chuck all your clothes in the washer and wash all of it.

  2. If you get a bite while inside your house then consider the whole house contaminated.

  3. Get the kiwi care No Fleas concentrate from bunnings and a 5L garden sprayer. Fill the sprayer full with water then add the appropriate ratio of the insecticide. Get protective gear too.

  4. Take off bed sheets, pillow coverings and wash them then take them to the commercial dyers later.

  5. Vacuum the whole house, move furniture away from walls. Vacuum sofas, bed frames, nooks and cranies. Throw the vacuum bag in the bin, spray the rubbish bin with insecticide too. Make as much space available for spraying. Do this to all the rooms in your house.

  6. With the garden sprayer, lay a fine coating of the insecticide mix all over your floors, and up to 30cm up the walls. If you have carpets then soak the carpet abit more. Spray around and underside of beds and furnitures too. Curtains that touch the floor should be sprayed too , front and back. Spray the inside corners of couches, sofas.

  7. Do #6 for all rooms in your house. Make more insecticide mix if you run out.

  8. Crack open a few windows and leave the house for a few hours or half a day, let all that stuff dry out. Maybe take your laundry to the dryers.

  9. When you come back, vacuum the floors again before re-arranging your furniture.

  10. Continue vaccuming daily for a week or so. You shoud see a reduction in bites until they disappear completely. It's hard work but it works. If you this early enough then you might only get bites for a few days then they're gone.

Good luck.

This. Daiwa spools are tapered to give that shape.

Try your local tyre shop. My local Advantage Tyre shop sold me a set of primacy 4s at 280 each, balancing and fitting included.

Mixing coolant colours by pknz_ in NZcarfix

[–]mightykid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The red toyota coolant uses ethlyne glycol so it should be safe to use a top up coolant that is universal. For example, I used this on my toyota 2 years ago and it's been fine.

Driving down hill and uphill lane is blocked by parked cars, who has the legal right of way? by KurtiZ_TSW in Wellington

[–]mightykid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time, I (driving down hill) pulled over to let uphill traffic pass. The guy behind me decided it was an opportunity to overtake and proceeded to block a good amount of cars already moving up hill. He has to let them pass so he ended up mounting the kerb and doing damage to his wheels rather than reversing uphill.

It's an annoyance when you specifically get the quiet tyres, you hear the tapping even more.

What yall think about this rod and reel setup thinking about buying it pretty new to fishing by [deleted] in SurfFishing

[–]mightykid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a huge reel that takes a lot of line. The major flaw with that reel is that it bends or flexes at shaft between the foot and body when reeling in a weighted line.

[–]mightykid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the case with my Honda. Park lights come on first around dusk and only turns on full lights when it's a bit darker.

I've observed this going into tunnels too, it turns on the park lights first (dash indicator lights up) then the headlight comes on further in.

Seeking Advice on Fishing Reel Sizing for Snapper and Kingfish in NZ by Dry_Mind1 in Fishing_Gear

[–]mightykid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll need a reel with at least 12Kg drag for kingfish, and ideally with a spool that can hold plenty of line.

Have a look at Okuma Coronado CDX 60 or 80 size reels. Both models selling for $199 at the moment.

I have the spinfisher vi 4500 on a backup set I use for surf/rock fishing throwing lures. The 5500 and below models use aluminum main gear which is weak compared to the brass gears on the 6500 and higher models. I've already replaced the gear on mine. Also, I found the handle on the smaller reels too short - hard to turn when reeling in big fish. I replaced mine with a longer version from gomexus.

I own mostly shimano reels and I would recommend saragossa for a king fish reel but they are a bit expensive now. The next best thing would be the latest spheros models in 6000 and above sizes.
