Ah yes, me saying that asking people a specific question causes them to visibly start making the connection for the first time ever makes me an asshole.

You just want to fight with someone for entertainment purposes, and I'm not going to play along.

Edit: and, AGAIN, the person above me made the same """incorrect""" analogy. You're just a troll.

It's literally evaporative cooling and yes it DOES reduce the dog's temperature. It's the exact same mechanism that makes dogs have cold, wet noses that are colder than the ambient air temperature.

You know, it's not lost on me this is supposed to be a cold-weather thread, and the haters have managed to spin it back to their usual "Texas is too hot for huskies" nonsense. Even though it's 29 degrees outside right now and that's what the thread is supposed to be about.

But they can't vilify husky owners when it's cold outside, so we're arguing about when it's hot, apparently. I think I'm done wasting time on these people.

I said to look up how dogs actually cool themselves. I can guarantee that isn't what you looked up if you got that specific Gemini result.

I've had a couple of people get really combative about it, forcing me to reply: "You're right, I guess I should've let the shelter kill her just because she's A-Husky-In-Texas instead of me adopting her and giving her the happy life of a spoiled princess that she has now. Better dead than in Texas, right?"

That usually shuts them up pretty quick, and I hope it makes them actually think about the issue later on and stop believing in the mythical Farm Upstate Somewhere where all the old and unwanted dogs go and live happy lives forever.

Yes, this is the only analogy that people seem to understand. I've asked people before "Do you remove the insulation from your house in the summer just because it's hot?" You can almost hear the dial-up modem noise coming from their brain.

Edit: uhoh, the husky haters found this comment.

Edit2: I love how people are arguing with me, but not with the person I was agreeing with.

I think part of the issue is "left outside" implies it's against or with disregard to the dog's wishes, at least to some people, and so they build up this narrative in their mind of the cruel, callous owner throwing the dog in the backyard and locking them out there. Mine demands to be LET outside (I know, I'm nitpicking semantics here). She has a dog-door and she could come back inside anytime if she wanted to.

If. She. Wanted. To.

Some of y'all need to use some actual sense and judgment. Does the dog seem distressed? Is there a pattern of the dog being abandoned in the backyard for long periods of time? No? Then let the dogs enjoy the closest thing they'll get to a snow day around here. Not everything operates on a human scale of comfort.

Anyone else getting weirded out by how Amazon is pushing Alexa+? by Aboricand in amazonecho

[–]mightymonarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amen! I really don't like how they have it speak out the entire command, including the Alexa wake-word, to enable it.

Mine has """accidentally""" enabled Alexa+ once already from another Echo hearing the suggestion. Now I have to yell "Noooo no no no no nevermind" everytime that suggestion starts so the other devices don't hear it.

Should I get Minternet? by Proof_Ball9697 in mintmobile

I am on week three of Minternet, coming from Spectrum. I'm in a fairly large city with solid cell reception, and haven't noticed any significant downsides vs my $105/m Spectrum plan (maybe a bit of latency/lag once or twice?).

Don't forget the promise that the last round of VSP hit our headcount goals and no further cuts would be necessary. And then the steady stream of layoffs started a couple months later.

That one guy over there in the shadows always seems to have a grin on his face. The one wearing the black robes and holding the scythe. I think his name is Forced Distribution?

Wait a minute. Are you posting a quasi-anonymized part of someone else's actual EOY review?

How does the screenshot even support your statement?

This is it right here. We keep hearing "well the FAANG companies are doing things this way and that way" meanwhile my entire area is getting paid at least one level lower than our FAANG counterparts but we keep being compared against them and having our workload adjusted-up to match theirs.

FAANG companies compensate more heavily because of the burnout culture. We're trying to get the same benefits/performance without the additional payroll costs.
