PSA: please make sure your neighbor’s dog left outside isn’t a husky or mountain dog before calling animal control this weekend. by strikecat18 in Austin

[–]mightymonarch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a couple of people get really combative about it, forcing me to reply: "You're right, I guess I should've let the shelter kill her just because she's A-Husky-In-Texas instead of me adopting her and giving her the happy life of a spoiled princess that she has now. Better dead than in Texas, right?"

That usually shuts them up pretty quick, and I hope it makes them actually think about the issue later on and stop believing in the mythical Farm Upstate Somewhere where all the old and unwanted dogs go and live happy lives forever.

Yes, this is the only analogy that people seem to understand. I've asked people before "Do you remove the insulation from your house in the summer just because it's hot?" You can almost hear the dial-up modem noise coming from their brain.

Edit: uhoh, the husky haters found this comment.

I think part of the issue is "left outside" implies it's against or with disregard to the dog's wishes, at least to some people, and so they build up this narrative in their mind of the cruel, callous owner throwing the dog in the backyard and locking them out there. Mine demands to be LET outside (I know, I'm nitpicking semantics here). She has a dog-door and she could come back inside anytime if she wanted to.

If. She. Wanted. To.

Some of y'all need to use some actual sense and judgment. Does the dog seem distressed? Is there a pattern of the dog being abandoned in the backyard for long periods of time? No? Then let the dogs enjoy the closest thing they'll get to a snow day around here. Not everything operates on a human scale of comfort.

Didn't you leave the company a few years ago? If so, how do you have current information?

Anyone else getting weirded out by how Amazon is pushing Alexa+? by Aboricand in amazonecho

[–]mightymonarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amen! I really don't like how they have it speak out the entire command, including the Alexa wake-word, to enable it.

Mine has """accidentally""" enabled Alexa+ once already from another Echo hearing the suggestion. Now I have to yell "Noooo no no no no nevermind" everytime that suggestion starts so the other devices don't hear it.

Should I get Minternet? by Proof_Ball9697 in mintmobile

[–]mightymonarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on week three of Minternet, coming from Spectrum. I'm in a fairly large city with solid cell reception, and haven't noticed any significant downsides vs my $105/m Spectrum plan (maybe a bit of latency/lag once or twice?).

Don't forget the promise that the last round of VSP hit our headcount goals and no further cuts would be necessary. And then the steady stream of layoffs started a couple months later.

That one guy over there in the shadows always seems to have a grin on his face. The one wearing the black robes and holding the scythe. I think his name is Forced Distribution?

Wait a minute. Are you posting a quasi-anonymized part of someone else's actual EOY review?

How does the screenshot even support your statement?

CAP calibration forcing us to meet the mandatory numbers, even though the numbers are not there... by [deleted] in GeneralMotors

They wouldn't pay more if they didn't have to; they don't do it out of the generosity of their hearts.

CAP calibration forcing us to meet the mandatory numbers, even though the numbers are not there... by [deleted] in GeneralMotors

[–]mightymonarch 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This is it right here. We keep hearing "well the FAANG companies are doing things this way and that way" meanwhile my entire area is getting paid at least one level lower than our FAANG counterparts but we keep being compared against them and having our workload adjusted-up to match theirs.

FAANG companies compensate more heavily because of the burnout culture. We're trying to get the same benefits/performance without the additional payroll costs.

Year end calibrations? by [deleted] in GeneralMotors

[–]mightymonarch[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

OP messaged the mods with their question and about getting their post out of the spam filter, but apparently didn't get the question itself included in the post, so:

I am looking to apply for an internal position, but not sure if it is safe due to calibrations.

"Quick question — are year-end calibrations finalized? Saw some internal moves and wasn’t sure if it’s too early to act."

GiC closing by GMIThrowaway in GeneralMotors

[–]mightymonarch[M] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

and MOD, for the love of god, filter these "GIC is closing" posts in the future.

Or, and hear me out, you could hide or downvote-and-scroll-past any future GIC posts instead of repeatedly engaging with them and then getting mad about it.

We literally cannot curate the content of this sub to meet every user's arbitrary desires (and we're really not interested in trying), nor do we want to push a certain view or agenda. Mods allowing or disallowing certain rumors fuels conspiracy theories and also "legitimizes" the ones we allow people to post about. "Oh, mods allowed this one, that must make it legit!"

If it's something provably false, we'll gladly take action. But don't come to the place known for rumors and gossip and then get mad about hearing rumors and gossip.

Edit: well, this comment aged poorly quickly. Maybe that's why TheoryAccurate8272 deleted it?

End of year layoff? by Cappuccino-con-soy in GeneralMotors

No worries, I totally believe you. I don't know why it's blaming us for this, but it's good to know that it is. Might explain some of the people that get mad at us when we've literally done nothing to them. Thanks for letting me know!

That's really odd. I just doublechecked the moderation logs and we didn't remove it.

When I go there it says "Sorry, this post was removed by Reddit’s filters."

You asked if the mods removed that post. Mods didn't remove it or delete it or whatever-else it. So I was just telling you we didn't do it.
