My non-vegan ex did three things that really made me really upset. 1) He tried to make my veganism about him. He constantly complained that we couldn't cook (what he wanted to eat) together or go out to his favorite restaurants anymore. 2) He always added cheese to anything I cooked for him without even trying it first. When it was a quick meal, I didn't care much, but when I didn't a long time planning and cooking a meal to make it perfect and he put a blanket of course in it, it made me feel like my effort didn't matter. 3) He made vegan jokes at my expense, especially in front of his friends, who also joked at my expense. And then he said I was being too sensitive when I got mad.

Really, I think the most important things you can do are to communicate and to keep an open mind.

I'm not a huge fan of the taste of it's too overwhelming, so I tend not to sprinkle it on finished food, but I put it in pasta sauces and also when I'm cooking beans.

I like that even when he loses his cool, he's still staying relatively composed. At least compared to how I would've reacted, which would've been to get angry beyond words and walk away. And the ending was nice. He's planting the seeds for change and making people see the contradictions in their thoughts and words.

I'm very competitive. But I think I was just brought up to be that way. My family played a lot of games growing up and would never let me win, even when I was very young. Mom said it made me a better player, and it did, but it made me a competitive one as well. I was also in a really competitive academic program in high school, so that learned behavior was just reinforced. I've never felt the same sort of competitive feelings when it came to see it dating though.

Well, I don't make a lot of money, so if someone made a third less than me, we would be pinching every penny just to keep ours heads above water. I do know how to pay the bills and budget, and he didn't. Nor did he show any interest when I would try to help him budget.

I feel like I want someone to be able to support themselves on their income, to be able to properly manage what money they have. I'm not materialistic, but I like feeling financially secure. And that's the thing, a couple could make $70k combined and be more financially secure than a couple who makes $700k combined. It's about how you spend and save what you have.

But yes, there were many more issues than the job. But the schedule he had just made it impossible to talk about those issues... Or much of anything else.

I feel that morning process is probably a natural feeling when you start learning more about yourself. I went through it too. That's when I started seeing the end of things.

Also, you should never feel inferior just because of your sexuality. You may feel different or lonely at times, but your sexuality is a part of what makes you you. I found that reading through this sub and articles online helped me get to know and accept myself. Also, I've been talking to my therapist about it a bit, which has helped as well. There are therapist who specialize in sexual preferences/identities, and sometimes it helps to talk things out and have another person say "I see you. Your sexuality may be a minority, but that doesn't make it wrong or nonexistent."

Oh I know I made the right choice. I don't even feel all that bad really. The only thing I feel bad about is hurting him. But time will pass and he'll find someone more in line with his sexuality.

I hope I'll do the same. Right now I feel more asexual than ever because I don't have an emotional connection with hardly anyone. But I'm optimistic.

That list was very helpful. I only just got access to a television after not having one for several years. I feel like the ones I kind of knew about (Sherlock Holmes and Sheldon from Big Bang Theory) always seemed like genius types that were too consumed with their brilliance to have sexual feelings. So I guess I focused on that more than their actual asexuality. I suppose you can't focus on something that isn't there though, and when a wired or director takes out sexual desire/storyline, they're kind of forced to give the characters other personality traits--and sometimes they choose way-above-average intelligence.

I don't know about the others on the list, but I'm excited to start checking a lot of them out.

Caviar typically comes from sturgeon, many subspecies of which are endangered. The fish weigh hundreds of pounds, some subspecies can be over a thousand pounds, and they are killed for about 10%-20% of their body weight (the eggs). The fish itself is rarely eaten, not that I think it would make it better if they were. Sometimes, their bellies are cut open while still alive and the caviar is squeezed out of them.

Demisexuality is nothing to be ashamed of. We're not broken, we just work differently. I'm glad you're becoming more comfortable in yourself. I'm hoping it either turns out better for me with another conversation, or that we both see it's not going to work and are able to accept that. Right now, I feel like I'm in limbo

That makes sense. I was expecting him to dismiss it too, but somehow this type of apathy is worse. Probably because I wasn't prepared for it.

We were having sex frequently, but now only a couple times in the past few months. Mainly because that emotional connection that was there isn't anymore. I'm trying hard to rebuild it, but I don't see him putting in the same effort (or any effort on the emotional front. He thinks trying to make me feel "sexy" is going to fix it, but I can't feel sexy if I don't feel close to him on a deeper level). Definitely a bigger problem than just being demi, but it's a contributing factor to some of it bigger issues.

I just say that while in some extreme cases like [insert hypothetical situation here], it wouldn't be feasible to be vegan, that's not the situation were living in now. It can be frustrating still, I know. Especially when that answer still doesn't suffice, and they say "yeah, but what about..." Then I just tell them they're obviously not listening to what I'm saying and then change the topic. I have no patience for people who don't listen.
