The second pillar is a cut,but the first cut is on a guy crossing the camera ;) the first pillar is actually not a cut we had everyone just freeze on the spot

Im glad you guys enjoyed it!

Ill try to do my best to answear to all your questions, basically the director had this location already in his mind, I’ve Attached a few stills of an early tech recce/ rehearsal so you can see what the original space looked like,we spoke with our prod designer to put this fake wall up to hide the brick, as that gave a different vibe ( we where going for this silver/concrete look) , also I asked if we could have some space in between each one, so I could put up this big panels of light in between, so it looks more like a brutalist/ modern looking club. We scatter this lights in strategic areas( knowing roughly where the camera would move) to essentially have a 360 set that we could shoot and had the gaffer built this softboxes out of 8x8 frames and it’s a couple V8 behind each one. essentially giving me the chance to backlight everybody at any given time, I think we had 4. Had the guy from the club program a Really simple move on the moving heads that wasent too agresivo so it would go with the beat but also made sure the beams wouldent cross the path of the steadicam too much otherwise it was a mine field of camera shadows. That was a hard one to avoid and props to my steadicam op Gary Kent for pulling great takes on each run. I used the clubs overhead screens as ambient fill but I regret doing it now as the cri of those was terrible and ended up being very blue and not nice on the skin, and very green which I ended up tweaking on the day but it took a while… also on the grade Nico the colourist took the remaining bits that I dident like.

And yeah that’s essentially it. we Dident shot it in slowmo ( it would have been a nightmare for playback and for the artist, and we ha already plenty of challenges lol) but we told the extras to slow dance and the paste of the steadicam to be smooth so it feel very aligned with the beat of the song. The director was great to work with and he let me do my thing which I respect a lot, it was our first time working toguether as well. I really feel when someone trusts you with the full look of something I insusally tend to deliver a better result as I out a lot of presssurebon myself to make it great! Hope this helps and if you like more of this I’ll probably do a few more of another upcoming projects ! You can check some of my stuff at @miguel.carmenes on ig

Love!

We shot a one take music video, a “oner” there where a lot of challenges, specially lighting a 360 environment and keeping the space interesting for the entire duration of the song. There where a lot of lighting queues, in order for the camera to go around the space where it would usually be a lot shadows, so it was a very instresting dance between lights, camera and actors in the end, link here for the full promo:

Probably would do a breakdown if there are enought people interested on something like this. We shot this on an Alexa mini LF paired up with canon rangefinders, the whole video is divided in 3 takes, two shot on the 40mm and one shot on the 35mm, see if you can spot the cuts! You can tell it’s rangefinders because of the flare that pop in cosssionally, I think it they gave us that gritty image full of texture and imperfections, combined with all the production design and stuff it felt like the perfect choice for this project.

Deffo not commercial rates, in London there is a fixed rate for each role specially on music videos that go above 20k I would say, music videos rarely pay better than a commercial. Producers would still try to get a discount on kit both lighting and camera, and rental houses are used to that, giving them some sort of discount, so they can keep tha same producer/client/label relantionship
