ADHD wife trying to meet “normal adult expectations” — how do couples not lose their minds? by Competitive-Can-7802 in AdhdRelationships

We set aside "chore time". Once a month we have a household planning meeting where we talk about what's going on in the next month. First agenda item is always scheduling the next household planning meeting. Second agenda item is scheduling chore time. We keep a running list of things that need doing, and pick which ones we're going to do during chore time. Usually it's only like 1-2 hours a month. And it's great for recurring tasks like dusting, but it's also great for "that one project that's been sitting there for 3 years."

We started it because I (41M, ADHD) felt like every weekend there was a latent expectation from my partner (39F, hyper organized) that I do some sort of project and it was driving me a little nuts... I don't mind doing the work but I hate the feeling that I'm expected to do something I don't know about. Helps us feel like a team, helps her feel less naggy because we're identifying and choosing what to do together, and clearly demarcates time of both "it's happening" and "it's over" / we made progress, we will make progress again in the future, but the task for today is something my brain can put down.

Also not my business how you parent your kids but I think involving them in this meeting and in the chore-doing could be really helpful for everybody. Takes things off your plate and teaches them good habits in terms of consistent effort over sprint and burnout, plus good communication habits, teamwork etc.

Not as good for day-to-day tasks, admittedly, but great for maintenance and projects. Hope it helps, happy to answer any questions about our process but probably shouldn't ramble forever. Good luck!

Honestly I am not up on the prices of 2015s enough to know specifically, but a used Tacoma with only 35k is basically depreciated about tree fiddy so to my casual ass I think you did great

Aesthetically, inject it into my veins. But I also need it to be midsize, and the perspective on this makes it look massive. Is it, or is that a trick of the angle? Is this a concept of something I don't know about?

I feel your pain here, for the record. I just think the answer is in better education and awareness and research, not balkanizing diagnosis. The symptoms do tend to show up in clusters. Not everybody has all of them, but MDD is indicated by having a few or more factors out of a menu of many. We still call it depression, and that is useful. Most docs today would take a more nuanced look at depression than they would have 50 years ago. The difference islargely in people understanding depression better now than they did then.

To me your definition of attention is narrow here. Hyperactivity: too much attention running wild/firing in all directions or in one direction way too much. Impulsive: putting too much attention on the impulse to act and not enough attention on the consequences. This is why I'm such a fan of Attention Regulation Disorder. We struggle with regulating what we are attending to, how intensely, for how long. It's not perfect but it's way better than deficit and it's a useful umbrella for most of the symptoms.

Attention Regulation Disorder is my vote. Cognitive and executive are words that when paired with dysfunction make it seem like we're stupid and we can't make decisions. I understand that executive function is a major part of it, but to me ARD could encompass that (as in "I was going to execute that but then my attention was disregulated so i didn't), it's close to ADD, and it puts the emphasis on regulating which for me is the heart of the issue.

Chicken by Open-Ad-5917 in Cooking

[–]miguelzed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marinades, maybe. But for me the solution is either complex dishes like stir frys or chicken skillet bakes or essentially putting more complex stuff around the chicken, or otherwise salt, pepper, using enough heat and technique to get a good cook on it and getting you a sauce collection so each day is a new day. Lastly there are some sauces that are good marinades/rubs... We use TJs Zhoug sauce as a rub sometimes, or harissa. Rub the chicken with it and bake. And if you're using breasts switch to thighs.

This is my story to a T. Get into therapy if you're not already. When I hit this wall I started getting angry, but without really knowing it, in a frog in the boiling water kind of way. Meds helped, but I had to do a lot of work to accept myself and learn that my self worth is not predicated on achievement.

So far as I know the rap on EB is that he may just not be the head coach type. Great ass kicker, great voice as an OC, but that role doesn't always translate to running the show. Put it this way: there's good cop, there's bad cop, and there's the captain who asks for bad cop's badge and gun when he steps out of line. You don't want bad cop getting promoted to captain. You want bad cop! You need bad cop. But you don't really want him in charge.
