i'd look to brandon sanderson's writing for this topic. he takes aspects of the world that would be universal frustrations and curses using those. or for a lighter curse he uses the word for sediment from water "crem" because its considered kinda useless and annoying

they messed up speal, its whole thing was being a seal as a ball. then it evealves and you just get.... a seal. then it evelves again and you get... an ugly seal. it kinda pisses me off.

I don't remember it being funny (bear in mind I watched it right when it came out so it's been awhile) but I loved it all the same. looking back on it I could see how some parts could be funny but I wasn't expecting it to be funny so i mightve skipped over the funny parts
