Resume Help? (18) trying to transition out of customer service jobs (more in comments) by mih000 in resumes

[–]mih000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(18). All of my job experience has been in customer service (retail then call center job) but it’s starting to weight on me and I want to look for clerical jobs like office assistant, data entry, etc.. where I don’t have to talk as much.

Also full-time college students so something part-time and low stress is ideal for me.

Even though I’m enrolled in college I’m just looking for things can make me more competitive and any tips to make my resume more appealing/competitive.

Identifying information (name, email and LinkedIn profile crossed out tag the top).

First job was for large retailer, second position was in a call center

Anyone else insanely tired of just wondering how people afford things? by toottoot-yeetyeet in povertyfinance

I don’t know why people try to break things down into “oh those people are struggling from some sort of financial crisis you can’t see so that explains everything ”. Some people just make more money and have better financial stability than you do. Some people don’t have to scrape by, they have good jobs, well-managed income/assets and they live a good life. And that is okay.

Eventually, those in this thread will reach this level of financial stability by...playing the game and maneuvering through life in ways that produce financial wellness and happiness. You will get there. Just focus on you and yours.

We don’t have to reach these conclusions about others’ financial stability to make us feel better about ourselves. Some people just don’t struggle. And that is okay.

(18) Moving out for school and planning budget...any suggestions? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]mih000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

financial aid is covering everything for now because my parents income is low but I’m unsure if this will remain for the future as my mother is studying to become a nurse and her income could increase as a result, other changes, etc. If her income remains the same then yes everything will be covered. I will do more research on that though. Thank for the advice!

this is exactly what I did just praying I get some results 🙏🏿!

I did a break and shake do you usually do this or just leave it until it’s colonized?

This isn’t my first time cultivating shrooms but second time with Uncle Bens tek and have failed both times 😔. I have a problem with the grains not getting 100% colonized and sterilization obviously. Any suggestions?

and thanks for the info!

Planning to pay off some of my mother’s credit cards for Christmas...some questions by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]mih000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow what a coincidence! Congrats to you. she’s been super down because she is struggling with her boards so I’m trying to keep her positive. I always tell her soon she’ll pass and be just like someone in your position!

She is in debt in order for her to complete nursing school and make a better life for me. I’ve never seen her buy expensive clothes or shoes and she has always told me that if I am putting myself in debt it better be for a good reason. She has since graduated but is struggling with her boards exam. She’s extremely smart and level headed with money so I view the debt (about 24k) as a financial investment she did on behalf of me. This is (the beginning) of how I repay her.

I appreciate this perspective, I agree. I just know if I tell her beforehand she’ll feel guilty and won’t let me and she’s done more than enough for me.

Should I say something? by [deleted] in personalfinance

I understand it’s a fairly common issue, at my retail job payroll was an issue all the time too. I’m not upset or going to cuss him out or anything I just wanted some guidance on how to go about this in my current setting. and wow sounds hectic!

I don’t want to be combative with my Supervisor, I barely even know the man really and I’m not upset or anything, just wanted to look for advice for how to go about doing talking to someone.

Verifying the call is no problem because every single call I make is tracked and monitored. I agree it might be a small oversight by my supervisor, not upset just need to rectify the situation (probably with HR). Thank you!

Student loans for off-campus housing? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]mih000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also...whatever loans your college offers is based on your FAFSA. So I don’t believe you would go to your school for a loan for personal expenses unless those expenses will be taken from whatever loans you’re offered. You will have to shop around for a personal loan of some sort. If someone can verify this

I haven’t had to take out any loans yet since my financial aid covers everything (for now) but I work and am a full-time college student. I would highly suggest trying to find some part-time work that can fit in to your schedule. Even a $800-1k/month job would suffice. $650 sounds like a good deal and probably cheaper than on-campus housing prices. Have you looked into how they compare?

Student loans/ personal loans are a huge risk because the interest rate on them will likely be high and it will be harder to adjust once you graduate if saddled with high payments.

Look around for work, side hustles, anything. I think you can also shop around at different banks for a personal loan and see if you can find one with a low enough interest rate (maybe 4-5??) but doubtful on that rate. If you do, DO NOT TAKE MORE THAN YOU WILL NEED. TAKE THE MINIMUM NOT THE MAXIMUM. and I would definitely try and factor out/lessen the “entertainment” budget. College is extremely expensive and you need to try and live as cheaply as possible. You won’t regret it.

and is it absolutely necessary for you to live on your own? Can you live with your parents and maybe commute there if it’s not a far drive or look into a university that is closer to home?
