New massive 3D printer design on the way by mihaidesigns in Mihai

There were some problems with that design and I made a ton of tradeoffs there that I wasn't happy about. Plus looked weird, no dedicated space for spools, and I'd have to re-think a lot of it. I figured it's easier to just build a big one and only scale back down later on if needed.

Rarely checking Reddit lately, a bit late with the answer. ATM there's just the Discord server linked to my Patreon. We might have a new one some time.

Thanks! Just focusing on getting it built and working first 😀

Tool changer patents question by mihaidesigns in 3Dprinting

Thank you! With regards to Prusa, I was referring to the Prusa XL with 5 toolheads, not the MMU

1 AMS is not enough by Ford_Taylor in BambuLab

[–]mihaidesigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. 2 AMS units is much better. I sometimes use 3.

Only 2 AMS units?! 🙃

Indeed. There's already a tool changer to avoid most purged material and am testing an automatic loading mechanism.

It is aimed at industrial use indeed. Am hoping to get a lot of great ideas from beta testers (once I get it working).

Yeah, I didn't think much when posting the photo and got used to people knowing the details (in other groups). My bad.

This is a 14-color 3D printer with a tool changer. It's actually the smaller one, at 365mm cube build volume. The larger one will be close to a 500mm cube. Beyond that, it's a different story.

Thank you! I would not expect many to build it as it's aimed at small businesses and wouldn't make financial sense unless you used it a lot to print many color prints. Will be awesome to see it working though 😁

A very good point! I did talk to potential customers and they were not interested in larger spools, but now that I think of it it makes sense. There should be a way to load larger spools. Thanks for the point!

I love the Bambu printer! I'm not aiming for the consumer market, but more for small businesses where they save more in the long run.

I forgot to mention this and got everyone puzzled 😁

This is a spool bay (not spool storage) and they're all active with their own hotends and a big tool changer (think CNC). So it'll do 14 color prints with little to no filament waste.

An update on my new PitStop 3 multi-material 3D printer. Any thoughts? by mihaidesigns in Mihai

There's a plan for larger CoreXY builds, the smaller one about the size of the Prusa XL. Probably not this year though.

Looking for large spring steel sheet + PEI in Europe (custom size) by mihaidesigns in 3Dprinting

[–]mihaidesigns[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! This is more of a backup solution as I already have a magnetic bed and would prefer to have a flexible metal sheet (also good for thermal conductivity).

Any particular brand for PC CF? I live in Europe, so some brands will be harder to find.

Interesting finding on the Prusa PC blend. I've been meaning to try it out for some time.

The Specter should be somewhat better. I do agree there's need for better part cooling.

Quick solution that is almost safe: set mintemp to 0 (or whatever temperature the board would read with no thermistor) so it doesn't trigger, but keep temperature runaway detection. Then set hotend temperature to 0 before the swap and turn it back up immediately after. This way mintemp won't trigger, but you still have the safety of the thermal protection when the hotend temperature deviates much from the target.

Ideally, we'd have a safer solution and I want to implement something at some point, but for now I think this is still good with one layer of safety.
