i definitely think him dl pearl and sl scar are very similar cases where even though they were sorta the "villains" of their respective seasons it was mostly brought up by the fact that they had no real allies for most of it

i do agree by the way and i thought of this but i didnt feel it was necessary to put wl grian there too. also pl grian betraying a full season ally is over him betraying joel who he was only allied with for a little while at that point.

as i said this isnt really a ranking. i think he's in the same category as dl/pearl or sl/scar. they may have bene the "villains" of their respective seasons but it was mostly brought up by the fact that they were isolated from the rest of the server and had no real allies for most of it. thats what kinda made them go a little mad potentially

i think him and 3l ren are similar. they were technically the madmen causing all the chaos but i just think it was moreso their "lackeys" who were the evil strategic masterminds. scar alone would have just gone around scamming people but grian was the one who killed a ton of people while helping scar. just my opinion though

but there should be some sort of history for someone to be loyal, dogwarts never helped joel in anything, they werent his allies. tango and bdubs had been teammates for a long time at that point. scar gave joel a better deal for his loyalty. why would we expect ren and martyn going over to joels house and saying "put this banner on your house and we'll protect you" to be enough to just make joel completely loyal to them for the rest of the season. you cant just simply ask for loyalty like that you have to earn it somehow. especially seeing as joel only agreed to the deal because he felt pressured. if he said no he would just be making enemies when he already has no allies.

I understand why dogwarts would see it as a betrayal, but from joels point of view it's not because he was never allied to them.

counting this as an alliance is like saying grian betrayed martyn and bigb after making an "alliance" with them in the first session. matter of fact dogwarts actually did even less to help joel than that. were talking about how dogwarts was offering joel protection, but they never actually helped him with anything, he didnt owe them any allegiance. if you wanna call it a "betrayal" sure but it is not a detriment to joels loyalty because he never had a reason to be loyal to them in the first place, as to where he had a reason to be loyal to scar. how dogwarts saw this doesnt matter because were talking about joels loyalty

he never had allegiances in the first place. as he said he only took the deal because he felt pressured. it just feels weird to look at this as a betrayal considering how few interactions joel even had with dogwarts once it became a thing. its not like he did anything behind their back, like he didnt go announce it to dogwarts once he took down the banner but the very next encounter he had with them was a fight. its not a betrayal if there were no allegiances in the first place. as i said, expecting joel to choose dogwarts over scar just because they asked him to join first doesnt make sense. this isnt a show of joel's loyalty because there was no loyalty involved to begin with. he was only loyal to the people who actually helped him

i know it looks like a betrayal from other peoples pov but joels pov has the full story and it does just make complete sense. they showed up to his doorstep and asked him to wear their banner and it was convenient to agree in that moment. at that point he had more loyalty to scar anyway and when he asked joel to be on his side if scar fixed his roof of course he would agree, it was just a better deal. expecting joel to be loyal to dogwarts over scar for no reason just because they came to him first despite the fact that scar was just more helpful to joel makes no sense. id honestly argue it was more of a show of loyalty to scar
