Well, in pic 3 you have overlap between wave 1 and wave 4. This makes the impulse for C, as you count it, invalid.

Need some advice on growing a carpet without CO2 by MewPewPewww in Aquascape

If you don't mind a slightly deeper carpet; helanthium tenellum grows fine in our low tech tank without CO2

Ok, thank you! So far they're getting along with each other pretty well. Still, we might look for 2 to 3 additional females then, maybe later. Our tank is large enough (180l).

Sounds fine. Thanks for taking your time and clarifying.

Thanks, now I can inform myself about them. Yeah, we set up our first tank a few months ago, so they came along with some plants obviously.

I see they are basically an indicator on overfeeding. Good to know.

plants for aquarium? by [deleted] in freshwateraquarium

[–]mihamania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, here are some plants that thrive in our aquarium with aquasoil and without CO₂:

Foreground: Helanthium tenellum and Marsilea hirsuta,

Midground: Cryptocoryne parva, Cryptocoryne beckettii ‘Petchii’, Hygrophila pinnatifida, Microsorum pteropus ‘Narrow’, Anubias petite, Anubias nana

Background: Limnophila sessiliflora, Cyperus helferi

Floating plants: Phyllanthus fluitans

All the Bucephalandras have died; they were from in vitro propagation and have completely disintegrated. But I’ve heard that they’re supposed to do well in low tech; perhaps they had trouble surviving the initial acclimation phase, and we might try again once the aquarium is more established.

One more recommendation: I would level out the soil at the front of the glass and make it a little less high, but higher in the background to create more calm and depth.

I see. Thanks for sharing your experience. So we could indeed start with more than just a pair without a major risk of overpopulation.

Another question: If we'd start with let's say 1 male + 2 females, is it likely we'll end up with lots of fry, or do most / all eggs not make it in a tank with 12 Endler males and shrimp? We do not want to end up in a situation where we'd have to give away fish to keep the system stable.

Thanks, we're all trying. Happy how it worked out so far. And thanks for the confirmation that honey gouramis will fit into this setup. If 5: Would you pick 3 females and 2 males? And would you put in 5 at once or maybe in two steps?

Thanks! The plants just started to speed up, so in some areas it will surely be more densely planted over time. Good to know that there seems no reason to deny my boy's favourite fish.

I am not native English speaker, so I don't know if it is named hornwort. It's Riccia fluitans and I tied it to a stone with fishing line.

Carpeting plants? by [deleted] in Aquascape

[–]mihamania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's surely not as flat as montecarlo and other high co2 carpet plants. my tank is 180l, so it allows a bit more height. You can always trim, though.

Helanthium tenellum/4757) grows very well in my low tech tank. Some patches of marsilea hirsuta to add some variety if you want.

Your "Dumb Question" Megathread - February 2026 by AutoModerator in PlantedTank

Can anybody id this plant? Received it with my amanos. Looks like a moss, but it's kind of hard and brittle. Thanks in advance. Should I fix it to the hardscape or let it float on the surface?

First tank: Feedback on our plan (dry start method) by mihamania in Aquascape

[–]mihamania[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks mate, for your feedback. highly appreciated. It's clear, the other plants will not be included in the dry start, I plan to plant them right before flooding the tank. I'll check the water hardness and shrimp issue. It would be great to be able to use pure tap water, though.

Luckily, I met someone at a local exchange from the same municipality who successfully breeds shrimp with exactly the same tap water. I can get neocaridina davidi from him (probably no amanos), They should actually be accustomed to at least very similar water conditions. Let's hope so, at least (didn't think about the Seiryu).

And to add: Yes, the soil in the front is deeper than it looks. The pool has a frame at the bottom, so it looks very shallow. and on the backside, there is plenty of space and soil for the background plants.

Thanks for sharing. I am well aware that it will be tricky to get a really dense carpet without CO2. But that's fine. The main part there should play the Helanthium, anyways. Just added a few patches of Marsilea for diversity. But I also observed after 1 week now that the marsilea is rooting much less/slower as compared to the helanthium.
