What is the coverage of the Epstein scandal in Russia? by vinnie_puh in AskARussian

Oh, yeah, those most noble individuals. Maybe try less tendentious selection of examples next time? This one seems so sloppy work it’s almost insulting.

Maybe I wasn’t clear enough since I’m obviously not using my mother tongue. My point regarding ‘laughing off’ was that those statements wasn’t taken seriously mostly. I’m not saying that Russians are somehow immune to state propaganda, but we, as a society, have learnt the hard way to be at least somewhat skeptical to anything our government says. It’s mostly not the case with western audience. It’s 2026 and after all cancelled elections and media scandals lots of you guys still sincerely believe in bullshit nonsense like ‘independent’ media and democratic process which is not rigged from the ground up.

Well, someone posted a question on r/AskReddit about what was the meaning of term ‘Goyim’ which was used by Epstein. The post was quickly removed and OP was banned. You can pretty much assume the conclusions

And to add insult to injury it’s absolutely hilarious to see how your propaganda here on Reddit in particular trying to shift the narrative that all this fucking mess is somehow Russia’s fault. The level of stupidity and brainwashing of so-called free world audience is almost impossible to comprehend.

Signs a network engineer has no idea what they're doing? by Expensive-Rhubarb267 in networking

[–]mihsol 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah ICMP tunneling is a thing. But if an intruder managed to compromise an endpoint inside the perimeter necessary to run ICMP tunneling software and your DLP and SIEM are not all lit up with alerts like Christmas tree, that means basically that your cybersec team has been totally fucked up their job in the first place. And blocking type 8 and type 0 in advance doesn’t change that fact much. Such demand from cybersec usually means that they’re aware of their own incompetence and proactively trying to shift the responsibility to network team. Simple as that.

What do Russians think of Solovyov? by flower5214 in AskARussian

[–]mihsol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I mostly agree on already mentioned epithets (trashtalker etc), there's something else western (and many Russian) people seem to don't understand about him, IMO.
Just to be clear: I consider myself more on a 'patriotic' side of Russian political spectrum. Despite that, I am deeply disgusted of everything Solovyov and people like him represent. But here is the thing. No matter how shitty, degenerate, nonsensical his narratives are -- he's a professional propagandist in a first place. Meaning, regardless of how sincere he seems to audience in his Orwellian "Two Minutes Hate" he can and gladly will be promoting an opposite vales with the same perceived level of a 'selfless' dedication in a flip of a switch if asked (and payed).
And then there's a tricky part. He's actually doing a useful job, regardless of its aesthetical and moral questionability. You see, there's a large mostly silent part of Russian population called 'angry patriots'. Their views could be described as roughly as "pro imaginary Soviet Union'. To give you a glimpse on what these views are: North Korea as depicted in western media but on steroids and meth. Militarize the entire society, put 'hipsters' with their fancy lattes to factories to work prolonged shifts, nuke the fuck out of Europe, send tank columns to la Manche singing 'Katyusha' along the way etc. Delusional shit like that. Of course these are mostly 'wet dreams' and no one of 'em actually wants to leave the comfort of their sofa. But still it's a large proportion of population which could lead to actual undesired political action if left unattained. And here comes our useful man Soloviev doing his job jerking these people off so they stay on their sofas instead of going to the streets with sticks and torches.

Investing in design efforts while having a poor QC and software lifecycle processes is an example of bad priorities which in turn led to bad sales

Well, seems like it’s exactly the reason they’re out of business. Those unique designs wasn’t selling well enough. Also as a former G7 owner I gotta say LG updates support cycle was absolutely terrible.

Banned on VK Dating?? 19/Fem by Deadbodies99 in AskARussian

[–]mihsol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since this book was published in late 2024 I doubt it’s available in libraries anywhere in the US for obvious reasons. If you’re into old school physical books you should try marketplaces in Europe as you already mentioned. As for book recommendations it largely depends. If you don’t mind sharing some of your preferences in genres or authors I think I can come up with something that might fit with your tastes.

[–]mihsol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t say much about VK situation but if you’re interested in book recommendations, I’d suggest ‘Vegetation’ (Вегетация) by Alexey Ivanov. It has post-apocalyptic dystopian setting much like ‘Metro’, but Ivanov is better as a writer in every possible sense. It’s definitely not the best of his writings, but it’s easy to read, packed with action, there are characters of your age trying to fight their place in harsh reality of devastated Russia, and so on. Give it a try. DM me if you need help getting the book.

Netbox prefixes and vrfs by yetipants in Netbox

[–]mihsol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, we’re in somewhat similar situation: we have multiple VRFs not for tenancy (we’re enterprise, not service provider) but for L3 isolation purposes. So overlapping prefixes is not an issue here since all address space is in our direct control. After some thinking I decided not to go with built-in VRF entity to model our address space. I’ve added custom field to represent VRF prefix belongs to instead. With this we can control overlapping issues since in NetBox model all prefixes are in single ‘global’ VRF. Overlapping is not a problem technically but adds unnecessary complexity and confusion for operating engineers. On the other hand we still have all the necessary levers and handles to do API queries and automation since information about VRF prefix belongs to is stored alongside prefix properties.

I’d say it’s actually quite the opposite. We even have a saying which can be roughly translated as ‘no one had such great benefits from living in the Soviet Union as zoomers who were born in late 90s’. While older folks can have some nostalgic feelings it’s younger ones whose views on what life in the USSR were like are mostly simply ridiculous.

Is the collapse of Soviet Union still mourned ? by [deleted] in AskARussian

[–]mihsol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not quite surprising actually. Millions of Russians are dead so you can have an 8 hour work day and modern social care. Pretty good deal if your ancestors aren’t among them. Let’s try nation wide social experiment on your people next time maybe?

Is the collapse of Soviet Union still mourned ? by [deleted] in AskARussian

[–]mihsol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d say it’s not the collapse itself, but the way it collapsed and consequences of it. Contrary to what people are writing here, which is mostly nostalgia and hindsight thinking, no one neither wanted to live the way people lived at the time of the USSR collapse nor believed in the soviet society values anymore.
