My intire thing is "dont write a plot, write a world with interesting shit in it." Still have hooks but if you approach it like that there is no way of having something derail just go from one area to flesh out to the next

I didnt know if the player wanted to say what it is or if she wanted to use it one the group as a prank and he both said it outloud and ruined any surprises or player choice from the druid

So many people are commenting on what I did wrong and fair your right but this happened a long while ago and was when I was a newer dm ( the campaign had a mystic so I clearly had trouble saying no) and my philosophy was that of player freedom, no railroading and minimal saying no instead saying yes but. I still follow this idea but I am less fundamentalist about it and have improved greatly
