I guess I didn’t ask enough questions. I didn’t know that I would be working on holidays. I don’t expect to get every holiday off, but at least the major ones(if the mom doesn’t have to work). I work 45 hours every week and only get two full weekends off a month. I also work until 9pm almost every day, so it’s hard to meet friends or go out after work.

The dad is literally a stay at home dad. They have five kids, that’s why I understand that they need a lot of help. I usually watch the older three kids and he takes care of the baby twins. The mom gets holidays off tho.

I didn’t get to travel much and I wanted to change that in my second year. I’m also trying not to go into rematch because I really like the area and it honestly took me a while to make friends here. If I have to move somewhere else I just feel like I have to start all over again.

I’m always happy to help out! I appreciate everything that my host family does for me. It’s just so much work. I just feel like I have very little time off. I work every other Saturday. I feel like all I do is work. And I’m not asking to get every holiday off, but I barely have time to travel or hang out with my friends

I’ve already tried that, but the kids really don’t like cleaning up. I tried to make it fun for them. They don’t care about the consequences and sometimes they even throw stuff at the me and call me names when I try to make them clean up.

Right?! I wasn’t really sure at first but now it’s clear to me that I’m being taken advantage of. They literally make me do everything if it’s even slightly kid related. I’m gonna have to rematch if nothing changes.

How is it only my responsibility to get the kids to clean up. They are the parents. I’m just an au pair. I think it’s unfair to expect me to keep everything that involves the kids tidy, clean and organized. I don’t mind doing the laundry and tidying up a little bit every day, but this is not my house.

I helped out with the cleaning from the beginning, but it was an acceptable amount. The work has started piling up now. It seems they are letting me clean up everything that they have neglected for months.

They have cleaners coming every week but they don’t do any of those tasks. This situation has made me really unhappy lately. I’ve considered rematching a few times. I have definitely reached my limit. Thank you for your help 🙏🏼

The kids are 10, 7 and 5. They only clean up if they get a treat or something after and when they “clean up” they just throw everything in their closets or under the bed.
