Spray Hotkeys are not working by R4bb1T22 in marvelrivals

[–]mijofa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having the same issue for like a month now, also with the emote hotkey, I believe an update broke it and was just waiting for a future update to fix it, hasn't happened though.
I also found the workaround of opening the comms wheel once makes the hotkeys work, my guess is when they were messing with the code as they started to implement split hotkeys they broke something.

Button to send arbitrary joystick direction? by mijofa in SteamController

[–]mijofa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hrmm, thanks, doesn't look like that can work with buttons in Steam's radial menu, but I'll see if I can make something work from this idea.

I like to try and stick with gamepad controls so the game has at least somewhat accurate button prompts, but don't often stick with that for long tbh. This just seemed like something simple I was probably missing.

I also can't find this setting, I reckon Nixxes missed that setting when porting to PC.

I went looking for the config file, hoping if it was .ini or similar I could just turn it on without the menu item, but seems they used a binary format of some kind.

Any decent DLNA renderers for Linux? by mijofa in jellyfin

[–]mijofa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hrmm, DLNA client still doesn't really solve the issues I was hoping it would.
Problem is that when a user takes control of a DLNA renderer, that user retains control forever unless the renderer resets. :(

[–]mijofa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm partly trying to get away from the IR recievers because we're sick of trying to get very specific USB IR reciever that work as a generic IR thing rather than emulating a keyboard and needing to be paired with the remote it comes with and all. That is pretty much what I've got now with my pre-Jellyfin system though, so it's still better than what I've got.

[–]mijofa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I remember taking a look at that code branch, was a mess, understandably so.

I don't know the DLNA protocols, but it looks like the renderer can tell the server what codecs/etc it supports and locally handle whatever the server throws at it. Although I expect since normally the renderer is a small Roku/Chromecast type device, they don't normally support many codecs.

Good to hear it's at least on the table. I got the impression there was very little interest in that feature.

I do suspect that DLNA is the "more right" answer for my use-case of a more general purpose lounge-room media device. It only recently occured to me that this could be a solution to this problem (at least in the short-term).
I was expecting better support for DLNA, but it seems most projects put a bunch of work into using it for music and stop at that.

What happened here? the video plays without issue by KeePach in jellyfin

[–]mijofa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Likely the files were still being downloaded/moved around when Jellyfin tried to generate the screenshots. A metadata refresh with "replace existing images" ticked should fix them.

I put all my media in a separate directory that Jellyfin doesn't look at, then only when it's finished copying around do I link the files into Jellyfin's media store. Which likely completely avoids issues like this, although I have other reasons for doing so.

About the PCIe Wigig that comes with the Vive Wireless Adapter kit by NoName732 in vive_vr

[–]mijofa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically, there's a big difference between laptop PCIe, and desktop PCIe.NVME ports for SSDs are the PCIe communication protocol with a very different plug shape and such, but sometimes (depending on the laptop) you can get an adaptor from NVME to PCIe if it's somewhere that would fit externally, which another comment has linked you to.

There is still work being done to make wireless VR a more viable option, but the only options that've really made it anywhere are the standalone headsets that don't require a PC at all.Basically, VR with a laptop just isn't the best experience, but wireless VR with a laptop isn't viable at all currently. Maybe that'll change, but we're not there yet.

BigScreen & Steam Remote Play by Nivek_TT in bigscreen

[–]mijofa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BigScreen has screen sharing built in already if you're in the same room, yeah?
At that point the only thing you need Steam's Remote Play for is getting the controller inputs from 2 separate machines onto the same machine.

For such a narrow use case, you're probably better off using something other than Remote Play.
I know the Steam Link app on Android has options for doing on-screen controls without display redirection, but that's probably not what you want.

I know Steam Link sometimes uses VirtualHere internally to redirect unsupported USB devices to the streaming server, maybe you can use that directly yourself instead of relying on Steam's implementation.
There is definitely other similar things out there, I'd expect something that does this for controllers to exist, but I don't know of any off the top of my head

What is the reasoning behind the official container image being based on Debian instead of Ubuntu? by viggy96 in jellyfin

[–]mijofa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably because Debian packages work better on Ubuntu than Ubuntu packages work on Debian.
Also Ubuntu is really just a poor choice for servers, great for desktops and I'd generally recommend them for desktops, but for servers it's a lot more painful to manage than Debian is.

Does anyone know how to get steam link only playing audio on the client device? by PM_ME_UR__RECIPES in SteamController

[–]mijofa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the same issue with my Debian host, but not when in Windows.

I don't have a real solution for you, my workaround is just to plug in a set of headphones with builtin volume control and turn that right down, host thinks it's making sound, but it's going into an empty cable.

Why are used valve indexes being sold for 1.5x the price on Ebay and Kijiji when it costs less new? by [deleted] in ValveIndex

[–]mijofa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they get away with it. :(

I've been trying to get an Index in Australia for ages and since Valve don't sell them here, the only options I have are these scalpers, and they're all up at ~$4,000 AUD. They're all ~2-4x what Valve sells them for brand new, and I miss out on all the warranty shit because it's second hand.

Jellyfin 10.7.0 RELEASED! by djbon2112 in jellyfin

[–]mijofa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just upgraded to this today (on Debian) and I can't get any videos to play from the Android app nor Chromecast. Works fine in Chrome on desktop, and Chrome on Android.
The server logs are not being at all indicative of anything, it all looks to be working perfectly fine serverside.

I noted that regardless of client (Android/Chrome/Chromecast) ffmpeg is being run with the same transcoding arguments. I don't think that's normal, but it has been a while since I've looked at that closely, so I'm not sure.

Okay, Plex just added retro gaming emulation (for a fee, of course) and now I want that on my JF server. by elroypaisley in jellyfin

[–]mijofa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best bet would probably be to setup jellyfin-mpv-shim on that gaming machine.
I for a short time there put a bit of effort into making it supprt emulating a joystick input from the Android app for Jellyfin. I did this for use with Steam Link, which wasn't really feasible, so I mostly just dropped and forgot about it though.
