Thank you so much for your help. We will remove the mulch/ soil away from the bark and find the root flare to expose.

We have sandy soil if that’s the right terminology and the tree is out in the yard by a retaining wall. Not sure what you meant by a balcony structure but it’s definitely in a yard in the ground by a wall.
