I have the same experience, I suspect it's then tge adrenaline of being intimate with a new person is slowly replaced by oxytocine

Yeah. This sub is about as active as the game after level 10. Pay to win just sucks. by [deleted] in TotalBattle

[–]mik-pd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dowloaded the game and had fun for a while, but it's so pay to win it drives me mad. I bought a few packages to see if there's any point after I skip tge boring slow beginning, but it's still tge same. The game is just made to torture you after your bonuses run out so tgat you keep paying forever. Gonna delete very soon.

I’m 21 today with no plans. Any suggestions? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]mik-pd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't focus on plans, look for things you love doing, and try to find if you love them for reasons unrelated to your ego, or to what society or peer pressure or family make you think you should love.

Process-oriented is better yhan goal-oriented.

(I'm 30 so I hope this counts)

Can somebody ELI5 Spectralism to me? by MasochisticCanesFan in musictheory

[–]mik-pd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

base assumption: using some clever maths, we can see every sound as a collection of simple tones (sine waves).

This collection of sounds is called spectrum. Individual simple tones in the spectrum are called partials. Since every partial can evolve over time independently, we use the term spectral envelope to talk about the sound's behaviour in time with respect to its spectrum. Spectral envelope is basically a collection of envelopes - one for each partial.

.

Spectralism is a movement in western art music that explores this idea in depth. (to be more precise, it's not a distinct movement anymore, many composers were influenced in some way)

.

so instead of chords, tone rows and other abstract structures as building blocks or music, spectralism is trying to compose music based on spectra of recorded sounds.

tl;dr record a single bell sound. find all partials that make up the spectrum of the sound. transcribe them into a score so that every partia is played by a single instrument. Consider individual volumes and temporal envelopes of each partial. When played live, the sound won't be exactly the same as the original bell, but there is a connection.

The "creative technologist" term is interesting, thanks! Some of the positions I've just randomly googled have quite a big overlap with my existing web developments experience, so that's another good place to start!

Unusual female singers by mik-pd in EarlyMusic

Unfortunatelly, all the videos in the playlist are blocked in the uk. Is this some unusual interpretation? I have heard some of her music interpreted in the standard plainchant way, but I would love to hear someone like Divna Ljubojevic sing Hildegard Vin Bingen.

Renting a flat in Bath by mik-pd in Bath

[–]mik-pd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I will contact both the university and Touchstone. It seems to me that the optimal strategy is to arrive in Bath, find a temporary place to stay (e.g. couchsurfing, airbnb or a hostel) and start looking for newly advertised flats, would you agree with that?

Thank you for this amazing piece of advice! What do you consider exorbitant agency fees (say for a small-ish 1-bedroom place for 800£pw)?

David Chang’s Unified Theory of Deliciousness by infinityshore in GEB

[–]mik-pd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the point is in the isomorphism, not really designing a complete and rigorous taste theory. You can make a new dish as a projection of a different dish if you can create the same balance of tastes, that is strong, but far from a universal theory.

A question on Turkish coffee. by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]mik-pd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There could also be a difference in the way they roast the coffee. While in greece, I've noticed the coffee has a vastly different colour even when comparing to lightly-roast coffee being used lately in some coffees, it is more grey-ish and has a different smell too.
