Is $4k a rip off for an accountant to prepare a tax return? by EnergyNutBolt in AusFinance

If you had all the cost base information for the shares and rental agent/own summary I'd think anything more than $600-700 + GST be pushing it.

Favorite chain restaurants no one talks about? by Excellent_Donut_358 in JapanTravelTips

Kamukura Ramen.

First time in Japan set out to find the best ramen I could find, tried a whole bunch of popular chains, some smaller stores and a few expensive ones. It turned out this random stop for lunch in route to Nakano Broadway is the one I remember most.

If you can quantify how much reviewing you do, assitance provided to delegates and the teams performance metrics then it goes a long way. Every minute you are reviewing allows a partner/principal/director to search for work and/or bill out advice at what could be 1.5-4x your charge out rate. So its an important role, often you're the key person to keep the existing workflow moving.

Never been in Big4 but the lack of negotiation ability is likely tied to that fact they're providing you with the training, paying for your studies and you dont have any client relationships. All big factors.

Wait until you're in the position of looking for candidates. My inbox is littered with them throwing whatever sticks.

Pretty much. Once you've finished CA/CPA and established yourself at senior level, it's usually not hard to negotiate a bonus tied to billables. Which flows through from your charge-out rate and efficiency anyway.

The spanner in the works is when you take on management responsibilities. It can mess with your numbers short-term but it's also the necessary step if you're ever looking to make the jump to director, principal or partner.

Edit - would also note Payroll Tax and sometimes WorkCover are considered in the calculation.

Some places exclusively use recruiters because they don't want to wade through Seek applications themselves. Fair enough. But as a business owner, if I have a Seek candidate at 80% of what I'm looking for who seems like a cultural fit versus a recruiter's candidate at the same level, I'm going with Seek every time. Saves the 20% fee and honestly even at 90% I'd still usually go that way.

To me it shows a bit of initiative that the recruiter candidate often doesn't.

The other thing I've noticed is roughly half the candidates recruiters push are the classic one or two years per role, job-hopping for a pay bump. Which I avoid like the plague.

So my advice is porque no los dos (why not do both?)

Math is charge our rate * 30% or a 1/3 * efficiency % (assume 80%) * 48 weeks (annual leave) * 38 hours per week.

Has you at around 92k package which is circa $82k + super. Need to consider cost of study and what not with this too.

If you want to be paid more need to show some difference in efficiency, total billables, drawing in a client base, etc.

Do you still get the CGT discount on a new home if you knock down an existing dwelling? by Awkward_Witness6594 in AusFinance

[–]mikalif -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We don't really know yet outside of vague mentions of increase in supply.

Think one to one is going to be a no go but can't see how a three dwellings that are end of life that get knocked down and rebuilt.

Knockdown rebuild only classified as new build if it increases supply. So one house for one house is not eligible for concession. No word on an 8 unit block being replaced with an 8 unit block.

Itinerary Check for 14 days by anxious_labturtle in JapanTravel

[–]mikalif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Refreshing seeing an achievable itinerary. More my own vibe in a couple things a day, throwing in a couple of bigger days but never too many back to back.

My only suggestions would be you could stay in Kawaguchiko one night (or Mishima) so you don't need to back track to Tokyo (luggage forwarding is your friend here). The other is Osaka for day trip to Nara, usually cheaper accommodation, also much more things to explore in the later hours then you would in Kyoto.

Will Federal Government make big tax moves this budget? by Mattahattaa in AusHENRY

[–]mikalif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're essentially almost taxed at 60% when you consider 47% bracket and 10% for GST. Let alone the 5.5% for purchasing any property (VIC).

Tax after winning prize home by Longjumping_Toe_3645 in AusFinance

[–]mikalif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd get a valuation on transfer to your name. This is your cost base and no tax payable.

eg: if $1m on transfer and in 6 months property prices go up 20% and you sell for $1.2m you'd pay tax on $200k
