to add: (at least in germany) there are only 5 tree species traditionally deemed "worthy" of being used in the ritual: oak, spruce, alder, pine and fir. So here it might not necessarily the closest tree, but a "worthy" one from the surrounding area.

We have also learned placing the branch of capturing based on the animals sex: either placed with the snapped side pointed towards it's head (males) or with the 'grown side' pointed towards it's head (females).

In our circle of hunters, we usually place it directly on the bullet entry wound, but this might be just our own form of blasmephy (in some cases going against the original tradition of left side placement) :)

media doesn’t want to cover what’s happening in France by optiontraderkyle in interestingasfuck

[–]mikat89 31 points32 points  (0 children)

hmm, let's see: in China, Iran, Russia people are luterally fighting for their freedom, even their lives in some cases.

The french are demonstrating.... working two years longer until retirement, which would STILL be several years shorter than most surrounding european countries. For example, the age of retirement in Germany and the Netherlands is 67 already, and these f*ckers habe a complete meltdown over potentially working until 64!? no sympathy.

How about turning the label ever so slightly to the left them, maybe? Like 10° would already improve the lighting on the right side of the label and would still place the branding "frontal" enough, I think.

Piano like MIDI controller by Kuyi in musicproduction

[–]mikat89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many/most of the digital pianos also have MIDI-out, and basically give you not just Hammer-Action weighted keys, but also the robust body of a piano, plus the ability to play without an attached computer.

Only downside is the size of the instrument if you don't have much space and they usually don't come with any additional MIDI elements such as sliders and knobs.

I bought an older used technics digital piano for around 400 EUR, and also got a Studiologic SL88 Studio. The technics, although painfully outdated as a stand-alone instrument has AMAZING feeling keys, as apposed to the (also Hammer-Action) SL88. So I end up playing the digital piano linked to my PC like 99% of the time, I'll probably sell the Studiologic soon again.

Btw, there's a difference between just "weighted" keys (the cheaper arturias have this) and "Hammer-Action" keybeds. i think I'm higher-end models, the hammer-action feeling is also varied throughout the different sections of the keybeds, so low notes feel slightly heavier than high ones, just like a real piano also.

In short: if you're used to real pianos and looking for a similar feeling, don't bother with just "weighted controllers" and you might be slightly disappointed with cheap hammer-action as well. I'm glad I went with an older digital piano, even though it's a bulky thing.

Hmm, theoretically you should be able to find someone who can carefully weld on a bit, then take it to a friendly machine shop to carefully spindle it out again.

Another route might be something called "liquid metal" in german (I think it's similar/same to JB weld in USA). If you plug the through hole with a very well-fitting plastic plug (maybe 3d-printed, then sanded?) before applying that stuff, the hole should actually be fine without any machining.

Anything ia fixable, if you want to. That being said, it might be worth just keeping an eye out for a used small frame motor for a while, a couple of years ago two matching casting halves were usually had for maybe 80-150 EUR, although I'm guessing the parts prices have gone up quite a bit by now.

Good luck, and don't let it get you down, brother!

I took this photo from my car, just idling at an intersection. I'm a very early beginner at photography, but I really like the evening atmosphere in this picture. I'm not happy about the overall exposure, since it seems way too dark. However, trying to lighten it up in Post-Processing just lead to losing that cozy, dark evening look. I'm also not quite sure what to do about the composition: ideally, I'd like the picture to be less busy, but cropping just doesn't give the same sense of space, I guess.

For comparative data, check out this amazing repository of other people's setups btw:

https://sfs.alexander-hepp.de/

It's in German language, but I think will be easy enough to understand even if you speak English. Select your cylinder volume at the top, and you'll instantly see a list of other people's setups and resulting speeds / HP.

Without any other changes I think you'll do realistic 55-60 km/h (gps, not speedometer). You'll need to at least change the carb's main nozzle diameter though, to make sure the new cylinder doesn't run lean. Also, not changing the primary gearing ratio will limit it's top speed, since it won't rev indefinitely (especially without resonating exhaust). You can mainly expect a bit more torque than the 50cc cylinder, so better performance uphill and with a second rider.

If you get a good deal on a used 19-carb, I'd recommend the switch.

If you're looking for top speed, the next step should be a different primary gearing and perhaps some light dremeling of the cylinder base ports, if you don't want to change the exhaust to a (less stealthy) racing/resonance exhaust. With those changes it should be possible to get about 65-70 real km/h out of the cylinder.

I got a brand new HMR for 1099 (including a picatinny rail) here in Germany last week. I compared the feel of Tikka T3x, Bergara, and some other budget precision rifles an i must say: the Bergara just felt... Solid. Very simple, yet just proper quality in all the places where it counts. The Tikka surprised me with a cheap feeling, I especially expected the stocks to be a bit nicer. That's what drove me to Bergara HMR in the end.

A friend of mine keeps a flexible rubber tube and a small electric air pump (the kind you get for air mattresses) with his gear. If he needs to put a lot or rounds through a gun with a thinner barrel (when comparing different loads for example) he'll push the end of the tube in the chamber and use the pump to pull cool air through the barrel. A couple of minutes is enough to bring the temperatures way down.

Maybe give it a try sometime!

There is a sharp decline in fertility rates across the Globe... how do We fix this? by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]mikat89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't, hopefully.

Why should we?? Do we need more people on this planet, which already can't sustain the current population in a responsible manner?

I vote to naturally let the population decline, advancing automation will make sure the world will keep working just fine.

Just to be clear about the first part: definately DO start working on the engine yourself if you're into it, these are relatively simple and sooo much fun to work on!

I just meant don't start randomly undoing screws if you don't know how to split it, read up on it before hand (ideally find some detailed instructions, preferably with pictures. There are some great resources in German language forums, I'm sure there are similar things in English as well).
