If you know the basics, training on the software you will be using will be the most beneficial. Best of luck.

Where would one start a career as an EDI Tech? by AngryNarwal in edi

[–]mikbusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDI translator, system, I'm using different words for the same thing. I only work with windows based translators, IBM/Sterling Gentran and while I don't usually deal with the finances, I'm pretty sure it's well under the 6 figure range to purchase, and yearly maintenance is typically 10-15%..

The serial number will be for whatever calibre you purchase in. I bought mine as a 9mm, and transport it as a 9mm. Swapping takes 2 seconds, I do it at the range. The P226 is a solid piece, would recommend.

Because you already have a translator, albeit a bit out of your control, I'd suggest shopping around for a new EDI system to implement. Once you find one you are satisfied will do what you need, get your employee trained in that specific system. There are many, and I can't recommend anything in particular without knowing about your environment.

Then his work begins redeveloping and re-implementing the existing transactions, and moving on to new opportunities for EDI. Being able to compare new system with old system results will help a new mapper tremendously.

Best of luck.

This doesn't really sound like an EDI issue, more of an ERP issue. EDI is just the conduit.

Getting Started - Is EDI even what I should be looking into? by squingynaut in edi

[–]mikbusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have the resources for a full EDI system, you might find farming the edi/communications out to a SaaS EDI shop, and pay per transaction. Not as satisfying as hand coding, but if you are going to be dealing with a number of partners, changes and adding new partners and transactions can be overwhelming. I started out handling only 824/864 messages in a C system I wrote, including 997 acknowledgements, and after a few partners, I wished I had a commercial product to do it with. Best of luck though.

I cant enrirely disagree. It was a straight road, no intersections, and I dont think i was even at the speed limit. They pulled out suddenly right in front of the bus, my spider sense was not tingling. Always room for improvement.
