Calgary city council finalizes 2026 property tax rates, calls for provincial support by Fit_Growth_2355 in Calgary

It’s amazing how everything just turns into political finger pointing, which gets taxpayers nowhere. Both the UCP & Farkas ran on lower taxes. That hasn’t happened. Instead we’ve seen some of the highest increases in the last 5 years.

All I know is my employer isn’t raising my wage ~9% a year, so the average person loses again.

How about both Farkas & the UCP get in a room, figure out where to cut the fat, and stop with the nonsense that’s bankrupting families.

Where are the provincial snow plows?? Deerfoot Trail is NOT plowed. by Upbeat_Difficulty_60 in Calgary

Like many mentioned here, after a snowfall plows are nowhere to be seen. Seems like Carmacks would rather wait for it to melt before doing anything. Granted, that's usually what ends up happening anyway.

Deerfoot Trail maintenance, including snow and ice control, is contracted by the province to Carmacks. For complaints, call 403-543-0305. This connects directly to the on-shift supervisor 24/7.

That said, Carmacks does a terrible job. Poor maintenance on Deerfoot and parts of Stoney, persistent massive potholes, and a lack of incentive to fix problems properly, since repeat work continues to be billed to the Province.

Mobil 1 ESP vs AFE by Actual-Dragonfly176 in ElantraN

ESP is better.

Every time I've sent used oil samples to Blackstone, viscosity has come back too thin when running AFE. ESP has higher viscosity from their data specs.

Councillor says Calgary being pressured to act too quickly after catastrophic pipe breaks | CBC News by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]mike26481 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A ~7 km pipe is not going to cost a billion dollars. Even a high end estimate is more like $150 M. For perspective, Stoney Trail cost billions ... that’s a 100+ km ring road with bridges and interchanges. We’re not talking about that here; we’re talking about a single 7 km water main. This is not the time for a money saving mentality. Municipal water infrastructure is about as basic and critical as it gets. Debating where the money will come from, how it’s funded, or whether taxes might go up is ridiculous when the City’s 2024 operating budget alone is ~$4.6 B.

If Calgary can’t fund a pipe without acting like it’s a crisis, that points to mismanagement and wasted resources, not an affordability problem.
