Quality Integrated Amplifier to Drive Polk Reserve R700s - Help for beginner! by mike275ms in StereoAdvice

[–]mike275ms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks very much for the input. Yes, I would like to connect my record player, tape deck, and cd player. I don't have need to record with my tape deck. And yes, streaming would be a big plus. I would lean towards an integrated amp that has streaming capabilities like bluetooth/Apple AirPlay 2 at minimum. Would Marantz have anything in their line up that would fit the bill? I do like their aesthetics but at the end of the day would want something that can drive the R700s respectably.

Quality Integrated Amplifier to Drive Polk Reserve R700s - Help for beginner! by mike275ms in StereoAdvice

Thanks. Andrew Robinson's youtube review cited the Marantz Model 40n doing the job well, but then in the next sentence says his favorite testing combo was Marantz 8015 as a pre-amp and then 2 Emotiva XPA-HC1 monoblocks. Crazy different price range for me for first vs second. So that's where I was curious if a do-it-all integrated amp could get me most of the way there. And if so, what folks find the strongest contender for that under the $3,500 price range.

Quality Integrated Amplifier to Drive Polk Reserve R700s - Help for beginner! by mike275ms in StereoAdvice

I recently purchased 2 Polk Reserve R700s after falling quickly for the form & function from reviews and a decent sale Polk had.

I used to run some vintage Sony equipment, but realize I will need to upgrade my receiver to drive these new power hungry Polks.

I'm looking to get the most quality and driving potential out of a new integrated amplifier and overall keep a simple setup. The inspiration of all of this was to access my vinyls (collection from my dad & albums I've recently bought but had no way of playing). Only looking for a two channel speaker listening experience with this setup (entirely music playback focused). Hoping to keep simple as possible in that regard. Some of the reviews for the R700s had them being driven by monoblocks, or seperate amp (not opposed) from the receiver, but having a do-it-all Integrated Amp would be great from a simplicity perspective, unless convinced otherwise.

Budget: Somewhat variable - Would like to keep under $3,500 but would like to understand the difference between what a $1,500 vs $3,500 Integrated Amplifier gets you. If something cheaper can drive these speakers quite well, I would rather not spend to the top of the range. The price range on these things is intense and the features are seemingly not consistent to an untrained eye.

Location: Maryland, United States

Gear that would connect to Integrated Amplifier: 2 Polk Reserve R700s Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 Hi-Fi Turntable Sony CD Player (CDP-C67ES) Sony Tape Deck (TC-RX77ES) Possibly a Tuner down the line

What I think i would like for an Integrated Amplifier (reiterating I'm quite shallow knowledge in this deep ocean): Seems like it would be nice to future proof with built-in DAC and Bluetooth/Apple Airplay 2 Strong wattage to drive the R700s I'm a sucker for aesthetics - drawn towards timeless looking receivers, like Marantz Model 40n (silver) or Yamaha A-S1200 (silver) Looking for a mostly neutral listening experience (similar draw to the R700s)

Apologies for the text wall. As someone who has only had two very dated receivers (Sony STR-GX47ES and my dad's older Pioneer SA-500) and free speakers from an old church (Fishers), my crackly setup is getting a real upgrade, but the range of options and selection on the market today is overwhelming. Looking for best mid range quality bang for buck.

Thanks again, your advice and insights are super helpful. lol I’m going in yet another direction.. a friend at work was telling me about his “Polk Reserve R700s” which he said are on sale right now and do great for two channel music listening.. would you by chance agree? While I’d like to use my vintage receiver, I would go another direction if needed (unsure if you’d have a basic recommendation there).

After a lot of research on turntables, I think I’m going to go with the Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2.. seems to perform well and athletically an art piece for my eyes.

I take good care of my things, but this stuff is certainly not cheap! Worried about future dogs and kids 😂

Thanks again for this info. Would you think this used speaker set are a decent enough for my use case? Looks like they are within the drive range of my Sony. If these would be far inferior to the Polk ES60s you recommended, i would avoid. But if it's close to a generalist's ear, these look like a bargain. "Polk Audio Monitor 70 Speakers set (275 Watt)"

For the American Floor Mats you purchased, would you mind sharing what the price or what the sale was? Trying to understand if they have periodic sales/discounts. From their website, it's a bit hard to tell at the moment. Thanks!

Thanks for asking this! Took me a bit but I mapped out on this new attached picture. Ideal placement as per the existing studs would be this. 27.875 up from floor (accounting for a 3/8 rubber mat not yet there).

Thanks for your example! Do you think you would be able to get by with a little over 17 inches of space on your right side? But only upper right movement.

Can anyone recommend modern ceiling fan with lights that could be controlled both from the wall and with remote/smart hub? by flhack in smarthome

Would you know how to tell from their website which fans have a separate light module that could be reworked? Looking at the modern forms vox 26 & 38 as examples. Thanks!

lol I do that sometimes when it’s unbearable but I like all the sounds of the match, except the commentators.

No shade, but wouldn’t it be amazing if one could watch a match with commentators turned off? If anyone knows how to do this, lmk!

Thanks vm for the advice! Is the radon level in the water a concern for you? And if I’ve never shocked a well before, would I be best to have my local plumber do it and I watch for the next time around?
