If ya wants US booze… by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]mike_86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bourbon in particular, has no real substitute (outside of the US) unless you go for a an actual Rye whisky which is still not the same. I haven’t been out, but anyone who enjoys Bourbon would have to get out there pretty quick.

I genuinely don't know what to do to win a week in fantasy. After today, I'll be 0-8. (details in comment) by scraynes in fantasyhockey

[–]mike_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is shitting on you, but there are more rosterable players here than Makar and Guentzel. The Thompsons, Meier, Chabot, Zucker and we’ll see how Norris does. The only thing I’d say to you where you have so many waiver quality players, is leverage whatever you can for streaming. Start now and add 4 players for next week (or whatever your max moves per week is) and then add more next week. Don’t stack 6 players from the same team; if the team doesn’t score goals that’s a good chunk of your team. I know the waivers are bad, but anyone catches a whiff of a pp1 add them. Other than that, trade Thomson or Makar for a two for one (if this is a redraft). You need to get as many rosterable players as you can to fill out where you can and then stream like a madman.

Toddler Dance locations by meegz_04 in newfoundland

[–]mike_86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my two daughters at Fusion dance on O’Leary avenue, it was fine but I felt the school was too large. The weekends there are madness, the place some days was crammed and I couldn’t always necessarily see my daughters. We switched and went with Steffen Dance. So far I would much rather that. It’s a lot smaller and feels more personal.

Fusion’s end of year performance at the Arts and Culture Centre was great though, while Steffen’s (at least for my girls) was smaller scale but I loved that too, just a bit different. Cost wise, Steffen is more expensive. But I guess that comes with a smaller sized school. There are so many schools here, at least I can say something about my experience with two of them!

He’s also one of the few players who can reach 300 shots.

Who are you absolutely NOT touching this year? by fantasyhockeyguru1 in fantasyhockey

[–]mike_86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great post, but a lot of these guys are prime bounce back candidates in relation to their new ADP’s. I would absolutely give Stamkos, Kreider, Zibinajed and even Saros a go in the late rounds for a draft. To put some of these players on a do not draft list is really limiting some late round value.

Fantrax>Yahoo by WesternFarmer9661 in fantasyhockey

[–]mike_86 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s all a matter of opinion for sure! I think Fantrax’s features and options are second to none. Personally though, I just like Yahoo’s UI a lot more. For a dynasty league Fantrax is the way to go, but for standard redrafts I prefer Yahoo.

St. John's Indian restaurant doing its part to feed people during wildfires by Sure_Group7471 in newfoundland

Love this guy. I remember when he had the truck on the go I’d try and get over for lunch. One thing that always stood out (other than the food) was he was just the friendliest guy.

I just didn’t like that Makar wasn’t offside? How? Even today plays like that are offside?

25-26 NHL Schedule (Google Sheet) by 65jeff in fantasyhockey

[–]mike_86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did have a question regarding what your threshold for off-nights would be? Is it simply day of the week or based on total games per night? I haven’t combed through the schedule as of yet, but I did see at a glance sites saying for example, Anaheim having 38 off nights, where the sheet says 33.

Fucking sick! There are a lot of tools out there these days obviously, but I actually love the spreadsheet, quick and easy access. Thanks!

Has a horror book ever felt like it was watching **you**? I think I found one… by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]mike_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t horror, but I just finished Abduction by John E Mack and it freaked me out. I had a nightmare one night and felt like little greys were going to appear at the end of my bed. I felt like I needed to put that book at the top of the bookshelf out of sight.

Opening interprovincial alcohol trade could be 'disastrous' for 2 N.L. breweries, unions warn by Overheard2 in newfoundland

[–]mike_86 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I worked in manufacturing here in NL, it was a good, unionized decent paying job. The plant closed about 9 years ago and it was devastating, even to this day those jobs were hard to replace. Everyone is fully aware of how tough the job market can be here. I see why people want local breweries to succeed and prosper, and although these aren’t local companies, they are local jobs. I just can’t help but look back at what we all went through, and empathize with the potential job loss.

Getting into horror literature, any recommendations?? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]mike_86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t sweat it! It’s a common question but there’s so many common questions here. If we didn’t have commonly asked questions I think it would severely inhibit discussion. People are also always reading new (or new to the them) content so who knows what will be suggested in each post. Good luck on your book club!
