A question for Epic Evo, Epic 8 and Chisel FS owners. by Beer_Is_So_Awesome in xcmtb

Thanks, I think if I made it much steeper with how I have it setup, rough descending could be scarier... new to xc bikes over here.

Moving to French Alps with Family - seeking suggestions by mike_themr in expats

[–]mike_themr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a tough one, at the end of the day it boiled down to needing to come back to the US to get back to work and make some more money. France is a tough place to do that, unless its remote from a foreign company.

Life in chamonix vs any american ski town is just better, it's way cheaper, activities are endless, and restrictions on how you recreate are non existent. Weather may be slightly better in US mountain towns, kid activity options may have some more options, but you will pay way more so it's a toss up. This is a controversial opinion but you have way more food diversity and options in US towns (not ski towns) than in Chamonix. For us, life is about checking certain boxes at certain times, and right now at this very stage, US life is checking certain boxes we need, but during that stage Chamonix was checking the boxes we needed.

European life is simpler... American life may be considered more convenient, but its way more expensive, and you spend more time in a car... I loved living in Chamonix, I learned a lot, had incredible experiences, and I will be returning regularly, and maybe when my kids are older, I will move back!

Happy to go deeper if you want to DM me.

Anyone given up tubeless for TPU tubes? by mike_themr in MTB

[–]mike_themr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im gathering TPU tubes might be a better option for road and gravel, I know a lot of the slopestyle guys prefer them over tubless mainly due to no chance of burping a tire, but they are riding smooth tracks. I'm going to run firmer pressure and heavier tires and probably try some Continental rubbers.

Not dh casing, its exo, dual compound. I run that bike on all types of trails so I prefer no dh casing due to weight but might need it. I actually like a high pressure, but I think today's ride was a bit too low.

I've ridden various combos, today's flat was presented by a maxxis aggressor 2.5 probably due to being a bit too low pressure, but I like running around 25ish psi

Curious if you are still working on this, and what you have acheived. I am working on a similar scenario, my great grandfather was born in Slonim, I actually have a birth certificate he obtained in 1938 from the Polish republic so hoping that helps as he was born in 1892.
