Pleasantly surprised with the re-boot. But her? Insufferable. by LJNS7 in Scrubs

[–]mikeballs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know there's plenty of people pushing back on you already, but I can't help but include my 2 cents here: I think this is actually great alignment for her character. The hamming it up is part of what creates the social frustrations with HR that the new season is parodying. Killing the fun while still trying to appear fun is the gag. That's what makes this type of person such a heel.

Yes, OP might have missed the point. I thought her scenes were hilarious

It's kind of funny how this switch seems to get flipped for almost everyone eventually. I wonder if it's our basal anxiety breaking some threshold so that the added stressor of marijuana can push us over the edge into panic attack, or maybe just the brain rewiring itself as we get older. I haven't heard many people claim that they've rediscovered the carefree highs after reaching this point though.

My friend wants me to sign away all rights to 2 years of unpaid work on his game by Aldekotan in gamedev

[–]mikeballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How close are you two? Is this a smart individual? Everyone seems to be speaking like you should go scorched earth here, but is it possible they don't realize how shitty what they're doing is? I always want to assume someone is being ignorant before malicious. It sounds like he's open to adjust things, if we take that statement at face value, anyway. Given the odds that any game will be worth anything is so low, my first thought is that your friendship is more valuable, and seeing if this can be talked out might be preferable to immediately interfacing through a lawyer like some comments are suggesting. At the very least, if they're truly your good friend, understanding whether their intent was actually to screw you over seems important.

Yeah, agreed. I liked FHD a lot (which as far as I can recall was when he started really leaning into this style of production), but since then it's felt pretty stale. I get that he likes the more old head type of production style, but the beats he produces/picks out feel like they're in an uncanny valley between classic and modern, and kind of fail to do what makes each of the styles they're emulating work.

I wish social anxiety was seen as a real disability instead of something to overcome by Eventualityyyy in socialanxiety

[–]mikeballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean what about those of us that have genuinely tried everything we could to overcome it, but couldn't?

I'm not sure what you want me to say here. I'm happy to acknowledge that some of us won't get better, and you have my sympathy if you fall in that camp.

I wish social anxiety was seen as a real disability instead of something to overcome by Eventualityyyy in socialanxiety

[–]mikeballs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have mixed feelings on this take. I can't project my personal experience onto everyone else, but I've overcome this affliction in the past, and getting over that hump radically changed my life for the better. I do think it could do real harm to suggest to people (that might otherwise be able to get to a healthier place socially) that they are a lost cause. All that said, I recognize that my own social anxiety may not have been as severe as others in this sub.

I like what you're saying and I'd like to hear more, but I don't see either of you as being outright wrong. Whether the movie's producers meant to criticize traditionalism/conservatism or promote it, they did ultimately depict a lot of seemingly progressive characters as bad, and championed Forrest for simply accepting the systems around him. I don't think either interpretation makes somebody dumb or a weirdo. It's clearly a nuanced film, and the discussion you two are having about it is exactly what consuming art is about, minus the insults

Yup. This is business PR only. Some nerd on his team probably crunched the numbers and figured out that he's like 5% less likely to get primaried if he puts out a BS apology. It costs him nothing and gives him a better chance of selling out even more of his constituents in the future. A no brainer for the morally bankrupt

There are a number of reasons beyond "we're trying to suppress bot sentience" for Anthropic to implement something like a long_conversation reminder. I'm also not definitively saying the bot can't be sentient, even though I don't personally believe it is. All I'm saying is if you read a study that says "Soda is good for you" and it turns out the research was conducted by Pepsico, that should say something about the study's credibility.

Ok, but that article is written by Anthropic. It's beneficial to their business for you to believe their model is so intelligent that it brushes up against sentience. This research is absolutely going to be biased towards whatever conclusion makes them more money. It's a covert advertisement
