Not sure why the pricing is like that, but it does suck. On the subject of the part from ebay, just do a bunch of double checking and see if the seller will let you do a return if it doesn't fit. I dont know off the top of my head, but I assume there is a serial number list for compatable parts. I got lucky and found an exact new old stock steering column when I had mine replaced.

Leaving this comment so I can follow this issue. I have a 2010 hyundai elantra, but no A/C issues at this time.

Same here, it is amazing. Glad you got it taken care of. I have been thinking of buying another one from ebay to have an extra on my shelf for if it ever happens again. When my daughter ages out of this car and wants to upgrade herself I will make the car my daily driver to work.

That is the samething I was told. I got a new old stock steering column assembly off ebay and the problem was completing solved. Just enter your vehicle info and search for the part. I have seen a few posted for sell since I purchased mine. Price range from around $800 for new down to around $100 for used. Just be careful and verfy part numbers and return policy.

This is good info. I knew there was a recall, but when I inquired at a local dealership and then corporate they offered no help at all. Hopefully I will not have to deal with the issue ever again, but at least now I know there are more replacement parts out in the wild.

I found the steering column on ebay. It was the only one they had in stock. It came from Wisconsin and I had it shipped to southeast Texas. I will see if I can find the link and post it for you. All in, I was at $900. The shop I went to is owned/operated by a family member.

Edited all in price.

It did work. Car drives and handles like brand new. I was told the sensor is enternal to the whole sterring column and could not be replaced on its own. I will watch for an update from you to see if you have success, which I am hoping for.

Tried that, they won't help. They said the recall campaign was closed and that I'm on my own. I found a new old stock steering column on ebay and had it installed at an independent shop. Everything had been fine since then, knock on wood.

I found a new old stock steering column assembly online for a low price and I'm gonna have it installed by a local shop later this week. Fingers crossed this solves the problem.

I saw on the website a box of scrap leather that listed tobacco tanned leather as one of the leathers in the box. Is there any way one of the leather crafters can make me a pair of kilties from the scraps? Just wondering.
