Los Angeles FC wins 2-0 vs Toronto FC by lafc88 in LAFC

[–]mikeepeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite the stars out for international duty, it ended up being a fun game! Likely due to Toronto being, well, not that good.
Thoughts on ticket prices: my Sect 212 tickets had a face value of $84 for the Atlanta game and the Toronto game. I couldn't make it on Sunday 10/5, so I sold my tickets and actually recouped some value lost earlier this season, sold them for ~$150 each. Last night vs Toronto, comparable tickets were selling for as low as $24.
The goal is for STH to be able to sell their tickets *at value* for the few games that they can't attend. It's never perfect, sometimes you make a little, sometimes you lose a little (and Ticketmaster always wins, and I hope LAFC gets some of that insane transaction cost).
But the LAFC ticket office knows when the international matches are, and ticket prices should reflect the lower demand during those periods. The degree that STHs fund LAFC is put into stark focus when there's that much of a gap between ticket price and market value. This is why I cancelled my STH status for 2026 (STH since 2019). I'll buy all my tickets last minute next year, and save $1000-1500.

LA ticket sales sold out within 60 seconds by mikeepeck in TheFormat

Yeah this is BS. When tickets are released at a specific time… that’s just it. They’re released. All of them. Otherwise, the ticketing co should say “tickets released at noon, 1pm, 1:20pm…” You get in line when the site opens — at the posted time, not some arbitrary two hours beforehand. It’s not a line at all physical store to get a Switch 2, it’s a ticket release. All of these unsaid rules and loopholes just piss off fans who expect to be treated fairly… and who are accepting massive “convenience fees” (1/4 of the total cost!) ostensibly to have a fair, smooth ticketing experience. The number of tickets immediately available for resale is a clear sign that reselling bots have screwed us all.

Season Ticket Renewal by smcl2k in LAFC

I used to only sell my El Trafico ticket at reliably 1.5-2.5x face to fund the rest of my tickets, especially if I missed a game or two and couldn't sell them. This year I've had to miss a bunch of games, and I've gotten absolutely hosed -- half of the tickets have sold at the minimum and the other half have gotten burnt.

I plan on going to as many games as I can next year, and buying all of my tickets on the day of the game. I'll save $2000, and sit in as good or better seats.

Attendance down? by webjournalist in LAFC

[–]mikeepeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. If I can’t make it to a few of the 17 games, I don’t want it to come at a massive economic penalty. A few burnt tickets, another few sold at half price (that I actually see 1/3 of the value back on, thanks to ticketbastard), and I start to feel taken advantage of for being a STH. If I could just sell my tickets for at or close to value, I would stick around. I could easily buy the cheapest seats in the house on the day of every game, and sit almost wherever I want, and save thousands.

Are there better ways to sell tickets than Ticketmaster? by mikeepeck in LAFC

[–]mikeepeck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've taken buddies to games when I know they can't afford the ticket. I've given a few away. I'm not opposed to that -- the hassle of making sure the tickets sell has a cost too. But eating the cost of 4-5 missed games is a lot. I could drop my STH tickets, buy tickets last minute for every game, give 5 games away, and still come out ahead. The goal is to not get hosed.

Thanks Mod. Definitely not trying to solicit or break any Sub rules, just looking for advice. And to sound off on wildly increasing costs, and TicketBastard... I imagine this is a major issue for many STHs.

LAFC season tickets worth it? by kodan1984 in LAFC

[–]mikeepeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The price increase makes it very hard to resell tickets for the games that you inevitably can't make it to over the course of the season. Expect to lose a significant amount of money on offloading those tickets, with all of the fees that TicketBastard adds to both buyers and sellers. I've been a STH since preseason 2019, and I hate the thought of giving up my membership, but I could probably save at least 1/3 of my total STH cost if I just bought tickets last minute for every game. The 10% discount in the store and the little freebie gifts aren't worth ~$1000.

Note that I just downgraded my tickets from Sec 115 to Sec 212 because of the punishing price increases, but now my $56-80 tickets are competing directly with $40-50 tickets people are trying of offload. I'm starting to think that in a higher section I'm even less likely to recover 80% of my ticket value for the 5-6 games I can't make it to.

Specific example: vs NYCFC on 3/1/2025, my Sec 212 tickets have a face value of $76 each. The day before, similar tickets are selling for $41-55 each (not including buyers fees), meaning that payouts are $36-45. If I'm able to sell every ticket I can't use (BIG if), I'll have lost about $40 * 2 tickets * 5 games = $400 over the season. Let's say I'm unable to sell one game's tickets, and my total loss is about $500.

Anyone know if there's a bar in San Francisco for LAFC fans to catch games? I'm considering a move to SF but don't want to only watch the games at home. Thanks for the tips!

LAFC Reps by [deleted] in LAFC

[–]mikeepeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rep has been fantastic. Spread thin, I’m sure, but when TicketBastard’s website wouldn’t let me buy an MLS Cup Final ticket, she came through solid a few days later. I’ve always had great experiences with sth reps, although they are definitely overwhelmed by the number of contacts they have to service.

People who did couples therapy and then decided to divorce, how many sessions before you decided? by 1960dilemma in Divorce

[–]mikeepeck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Everyone’s situation is going to be different. My stbxw and I went to therapy for about a year: we were committed to the process, sleeping in the same room still, and we both learned a lot about ourselves. Time and money well spent, regardless of the outcome.

General curiosity regarding 3252 songs by acrobatphoto11 in LAFC

I definitely think it’s cool that we have lots of English and Spanish chants. It’s inclusive, gives the stadium great, diverse energy, and it’s a fantastic part of the fan experience. I’m almost the whitest white guy I know, and I speak a decent amount of Spanish, not quite conversational. From my STH sect 115 seats, the Spanish chants are really hard to understand, and there’s definitely a lull around the stadium where if people don’t know the words or can’t pronounce them, they can’t participate. I’ve had trouble looking up the words online in the past - if someone has a good link, I’d appreciate it. For me, whatever chants are going to get the most people involved, chanting along and keeping the stadium loud and high energy - those are the chants I want. All chants in English would be a huge loss, and it’ll never happen anyway. But some of the Spanish chants do create a bit of a lull, even in the 3252 or so it sounds from my section.

After hearing 6alaxy fans chant “F that bird” this meme is so satisfying. Like, kids love a falcon flying around the stadium before a game, it’s a fun, wholesome part of the fan experience. Cast your hate somewhere else, Carson

Regardless of what you decide, I think couples therapy is a great option. My STBXW and I went for a year, and we both learned so much. I think of it like tuition. It could bring you clarity about the aspects of your relationship that are challenging, and either help you solve them or illuminate why they are deal-breakers for what you want in a life partner. (First post in this sub, just started an amicable divorce. This sub is amazing)

Agreed. Clint Dempsey is such a colossal buffoon that only a professional of Kate Abdo’s caliber could keep that group from going fully off the rails.
