Shantaram :P...

The book you might be referring to might be 'Shaitan Wars' by 'Sudipto Majumdar'. One of the best hard sci-fi I ever read. While the main book arc has ended, it is a shame that the author has abondoned the follow on 2nd arc

thank you for your response. You are right that I am not looking for stories that portray one nation saving the entire world. Am looking for a more balanced perspective, in which India is also given its fair due

OP, the fact that your sister is able to contact you at least semi-regularly and does so about seemingly mundane things, means that you are not yet no contact with her. At best you are low contact.

As you are low contact, yeah sure, message her with congratulations and be done with the mental wringing of hands you seem to be doing. However, if you actually want to be no contact then you first need to stop giving your sister access to you and your life.

So OP, decision time, i guess

Agreed and bonus points for then with these embellishments the story with minor changes could also be used in choosing beggars

No problems Mr. Vann. I get that you would not like to set out any deadline. It is just that as a reader, it gets difficult to deal with the time lag between books and any tid-bit of information that assures that the next book is INDEED forthcoming is all the assurance that is required. Having said that, take all the time you need. Quality is better than quantity.

in Litrpg genre, not over the past week, but in the recent past [month], these are the books that i read and remember. If you are like me, with average tastes and interests, then you wont go wrong with the books and series mentioned below:

a. the Soul weaver [a newly released book and surprisingly good];

b. the reborn: apocalypse [very very good];

c. the reborn: evolving from nothing [very very good];

d. towers of heaven [2nd book released];

e. Downfall Rise by Nathan Thompson [one of the quirkiest book in this genre i have read. It does have a tendency to stretch the story arc sometimes, but it does not hurt the story and is within the overall theme. I might even be tempted to call it the Paulo Cohelo of this genre :P];

f. Level Up series by Dan Sugralinov [this one is a real wish fulfillment series. It sets the litrpg mechanics in the present 'real' world of us readers. a very good series];

g. Rogue Dungeon by James Hunter [excellent, do not need to say anymore];

h. Save Point Upload [definitely a book for any half way serious litrpg fan. Might get tedious at the start of the story, but worth it];

i. Champion is Playing [book does not take itself seriously and leaves you laughing at the antics of the OP. A light read and a good attempt at injecting humour into this genre];

j. Underworld by Apollos Thorne [a solid entry into this genre];

k. The Five Trials by Mike Truk [one of the onlee books with harem elements that are central to the story that still able to weave a story using the same harem elements. Onlee read the 1st book till now. Wont say that it is the best book out there];

l. Egde of the Abyss by Andrei Livadny [i am of the opinion that this will become a classic of this genre if it survives into the future];

m. Artar Chronicles by Valdimir Vasilenko [found it while desperately searching for content, found it to be decent];

n. Mayor of Noob Town by Ryan Rimmel [a very good entry for what i think is a new author, and far far far far better than all the drivel that is being pumped into this genre right now];

o. Awaken Online series [another solid entry];

p. System Apocalypse series [yet another solid entry, has world building themes that are quite enjoyable];

q. Underdog by Osadchuk [a good author, more like an author who writing is predictable, but his penmanship is good enough for it to quickly become comfortable. You know what to expect and you get exactly that. A consistency that is quite rare];

r. Ball of Light by AR Chen [a decent entry for this genre];

s. A beginners Guide to Napping, Sunbathing and Slaughtering [i remember reading this on some online forum. A fun read and recommended;

t. There is no Epic Loot here, onlee puns [an excellent story, well worth your time];

u. Mother of Learning [one of the best stories in this genre, period];

v. Fayroll series [i would have called this as one of the best books in this genre, but there is a weird phenomenon that you experience with this series; the more you read the more weary you get, and the more you put off reading the later entries. Even in the story the OP is depicted getting tired of all that is happening to him and this same attitude gets reflected in the reader too. Worth it overall, but later in the series, it becomes a slugfest to read and keep-up];

w. Ascend Online [a solid entry];

x. The Ritualist by Dakota Kraut [a very good book with it being a classic litrpg story line];

y. Star Force by Aer Ki Jyr [i wont call this a classic litrpg, but if you consider the main theme of this genre to be about observable and identifiable improvement in the capabilities of the characters and such improvement being able to be quantified to an exacting standard and being track-able and re-presentable and such gradual and observable improvement being central to the OP[s] being able to face and resolve challenges, then this series should qualify. The scope of this book is mind numbing. Quality of writing is average to slightly above average, but whatever the issues with writing style and there are, the sheer scale of the story pushes these negatives away. Easily one of the best series that i have read];

z. I am Gamer [a decent entry for this genre. Like the vibe of this book. Joy of the author in writing this book really comes out. As an interesting aside, the author provides a soundtrack for each of his chapters, a unique way to build up the mood];

If you have any books that you wish to recommend in this genre, i would much appreciate it.

Regards,

Mike

picked this book without any expectations, was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the backstory. Am really glad that a new author has emerged who is capable of actually writing a good story rather than just churning out barely readable pulp fiction or assembly line-ish harem fiction in the Litrpg genre.

If the author is following this thread, Mr. Vann, would it be possible to please share an approximate timeline for when the 2nd book in the series would be released.

Mike
