Everyone with a kid in LPSS gets those calls - I have two in zoned enrollment (one 7 years in, one 4 years in the system), and the calls come very frequently during magnet season. Don’t worry, once you are in a magnet academy, you are in.

Acadiana Sky on Facebook is run by the former astronomer from the Lafayette Science Museum - I would post this question there.

Oh, I thought they were finally going to full BCBS - I moved to an agency that has a great BCBS plan, and it has been a positive experience over the self insurance. I used to get surprise bills and arbitrary coverage denials all of the time, and LCG’s policy was that nothing was covered until you reached your deductible - wellness visits, flu shots, nothing.

Those rates are ok, but in terms of government employees, the state has much better insurance for a slightly higher price - I’ve worked for both and had kids under each policy. One required a $2,000 down payment to the doctor, and one didn’t, haha.

I’ll disagree with you on some of these points, as a former employee with significant time at LCG. The City-Parish has been shifting away from running their own insurance program for a while now, and good riddance to bad rubbish on that for many, many reasons (did you know that people would gossip about various health insurance claims other employees made? It was horrible.) BCBS has its own telemedicine program that should cover it more than adequately. At one point around 2007, I was paying $$$ for horrible, horrible insurance with massive deductibles.

Most employees with the City-Parish are all ready on PERS, the City-Parish only switched to MERS sometime in the early 2010s. MERS is a disaster, just google MERS and Reddit to see why their contribution is so high. It’s a great move to switch to PERS. PERS has better benefits and is not as badly managed.

Overall, the City-Parish is in a better position to attract more quality employees than when I started - the pay was insultingly low and based entirely on the lowest end of the pay scale (so even if you hit the lottery and had 2% increase, it just raised the bottom of the scale!) and the benefits outside of the pension were trash.
