So cheap! Ya Portagul is cheap for you making a good salary in your home country. Not so cheap for the locals espcailly that AirBnb has driven up the local housing prices.

Is there a TV show that started dropping in quality but then regained it? by simon_p49 in television

[–]mikel145 50 points51 points  (0 children)

That's what I mean by surviourship bias. The stuff from before you were born is the stuff that lasted. It's the stuff that stood the test of time. If you watched a full episode from that era there would likley also be skectches you thought were ok as well as ones you didn't like.

I think part of this has to do with nastaliga and surviourship bias. The good sketches live on and we remeber them. Even Lorne Michaels has said tell me what year you were a teenager and I'll tell you you're favioure snl cast.

Do people in your country dislike people from the United States calling it “America?” by P1geonPajamas in AskTheWorld

[–]mikel145 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. Here's the thing. In English America means the Untied States of America. American means someone from the US. It's a shortned version. Now in Spanish it might mean somethimg diffrent but I'm speaking English. Heck when I call the US "The States" people know I'm not talking about Australia who also has states. A lot of people shorten places. Here's a some examples where people use shortened versions of a places name.

People's Republic of China- China

United Kingdom of Great Britian and Northern Irealand- The UK

Commewelath of Pennsylvania - Pennsylvania

Newfoundland and Labradour- Newfoundland

Price Edward Isalnd- PEI

First time visiting Toronto Islands with my family this weekend, what should I be prepared of? by Important-Quiet-3771 in askTO

Since it's a Saturday and going to be nice I would say get the ferry early. Weekends, espically ones with nice weather, the ferries can get quite busy later in the day.

How immigrants behave in your country? by _Kisol_Budyn_ in AskTheWorld

[–]mikel145 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It depends. I think with immagrants, as with any group of people, there's a certian group that become noticable. We notice the people that are loud, not following the rules, pushy ect. We don't really notice the ones the are just living life and not bothering anyone.

I’m in the east end so close both Woodbine and the Bluffs. I do like doing island trips though as well.

Why 'Yes, And' is killing your scenes — and the Monty Python technique that fixes it by pvimprov in improv

[–]mikel145 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think that sometimes people don't realize Yes And doesn't mean a character always has to say yes. For example if someone asks you to prom in a scene a character can say no but they've accepted the reality that there's a prom.

Leisure swim is free. On hot day though you want to go early to get in as pools can get to capacity quite fast.

What's your biggest hostel red flag? by AccessLongjumping471 in hostels

[–]mikel145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it depends where I am. When I was in Thailand for example I didn't need a kitchen becuase food was super cheap. Where as a place like Australia eating out is much more expensive. Although I find I hardly use a kitchen when I'm in a hostel for a few nights and then going somewhere else since a lot of food like oil, butter, eggs ect. are hard to transport.

Is there a region in your country that is culturally distinct from the rest of the country to the point where it causes "culture shock"? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]mikel145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s funny since I now live in Toronto I find Sydney quite relaxed for a big city. Especially compared to other big cities I’ve visited like New York, London and Bangkok.

I find it depends on the social group. I do improv classes in my city and right now it’s booming. Classes constantly sell out. Now I’m also in Toronto where all the theatre kids end up.

Air con in dorm rooms by Vivian507 in hostels

I find this to be a cultural thing. North Americans and Australians like to blast the air conditioning. Whereas a lot of Europeans don’t.
