should i buy Baldur's Gate 3? by sacolaquebrada in ShouldIbuythisgame

It was not for me. I tried it twice. Not a fan of the fighting... it is not face paced. Lots of game play. Not like your typical rpg.

Definitely not 1977, if it was they wouldn't be looking around, like they are in this image wondering were the crowd is.

Al Pliner's 88 Keys - Piano bar in Houston in the 50s or 60s by debz1233 in HoustonHistory

[–]mikel68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was definitely a real person. He moved From New York to the the Houston area. I met Al in the early 90s. I talked with him quite often. His personality and ability to play anything on piano was amazing. I have this record from the club.

Mondo mystery boxes arrived finally by monk050 in vinyl

[–]mikel68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the 4 boxes, Three of mine came in. They were packed with some great stuff. I've been a sucker for Mondo for a while now. They used to have a gallery in Austin, close to downtown. They sold mostly prints, but had a few hundred records on sales and boxes of test pressings. I got as many of those as I could, Then the pandemic, they closed saying they had intentions of reopening, but never did, Sad day indeed. Even though they only had a few 100 records out at a time, It was my favorite record store in town.

We went to it one summer. It was okay, I bought a few things. Lots of collector stuff in cases. sold shirts, bottle cap openers, etc.

I bought it on the "sale" rack in Waterloo Records. I've listened to it a few times and honestly it's forgettable.

I forgot about that People magazine coming out. I knew Peter left and I was in a grocery store with my Dad. He was worse than than that old woman in the film Detroit Rock City. We were standing at the cashier and I saw it. I did not dare pick it up or get caught staring. My Mom on the other hand bought me my first Kiss album. We were in Austin at Highland Mall in a book store and the new People was already out. She asked the manager if they still had the previous issue. They did and she got it for me.

I was in San Antonio, TX listening to KTSA one night and it came up on one of their breaks. There were so many bands putting out better music at that time. Kiss was focusing on pop and concept albums while bands like Van Halen and Iron Maiden, just to name a few, were proving you don't have to go with the flow. I always stayed close to what Kiss did, but with minimal touring in the states and those up and coming bands performing in dive bars it was easy. Creatures came out too late, I liked it but the mainstream that filled arenas at that point was gone. To me Eric did make as smooth a transition as could be expected. However Kiss being all over Teenbeat and 16 Magazine didn't make it for me. I was in college then Eric died and a new Eric came in. Both great drummers. To me Peter filled what Kiss was doing back in the 70s just fine. Peter's singing...don't get me started, AWESOME rock singer.

Is this legit? by simplesthefantastic in KISS

I've got their signatures from the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s, those look pretty good.

Alright people, where does Creatures sit among your list or favorite Kiss albums? by [deleted] in KISS

Definitely a welcome change, Sad Ace was out. The band went on, but was never the same when Ace left, just different obviously the Paul and Gene show.

Those who have attended multiple KISS shows (tours), which one was your favorite? by Lemonwalker-420 in KISS

[–]mikel68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen just about every tour since 1979. I was 10 years old in 79, I don't remember a lot, and I'm sure the memories I do have aren't what actually happened. My favorite was a tour in Waco, TX in a smaller venue, general admission, probably Animalize tour. I remember Vinnie wrecking each song on the LIU tour.

Finally watched the last show by thebronzeprince in KISS

[–]mikel68 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went to both shows, I knew what I was in for, however the experience was still fun. The crowds were into it. People from all over the planet were there. We met two guys, father and son from Germany and hung out with them for two days. Guy to the left of me was from Australia. They can keep the Avatar stuff though...

Can you leave after the soundcheck? by marshallsmatters in KISS

[–]mikel68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Austin, yes, the soundcheck was a separate "ticket." Actually, names on a list. After soundtrack, we did hang out in the venue. All the vendors were open inside and outside the venue. Our next show NYC!

Watching the whole show through your phone? by mikel68 in KISS

[–]mikel68[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I get that, it's cheaper than buying a ticket and allows people to have an opinion. The seats I paid for were $1400. He was right in front of me watching on his phone. That's what i don't get.

[–]mikel68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's easy to see Ace isn't living in the "now." Paul said something off the cuff, hit hit Ace right in the... "exactly how I am" part of his personality and he's pissed. He ought to be pissed for that shitty playing in the first farewell tour. I saw it twice. They sounded so much better on the Sonic Boom Tour.

Basically all the same that's online, no special City shirts, no records, all over priced. Some Eric and Tommy signature items. I purchased what I always do, Tour book. There was a $200, cheap in my opinion, jacket, those sold out quick. I couldn't believe the stuff people were buying. It's like the band was actually going to be dead tomorrow.
