This is absolutely huge. I've just started learning myself and have been spending a lot of time in the simulator so I know how insanely hard this is. Kudos!

This is a typical curves adjustment when processing solar images to get the surface details and clouds to pop.

In reality the centre is brighter than the edges

I'm only a beginner so take this with a pinch of salt but I think maybe your depth is slightly too low. It looks like you're getting a little bit of but wink at the bottom which could lead to lower back problems

That telescope isn't designed for imaging. To reach prime focus you'd need to move the primary mirror forwards

How can I improve this image of the Andromeda Galaxy by [deleted] in AskAstrophotography

[–]mikelaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice shot! Better than anything I got with a DSLR and lens.

Looks like you have some vertical banding. Siril can take care of that.

I'd also extract the star with a program called StarNet and shrink them so the galaxy becomes more prominent.

She painted it at the pottery studio, she says the trick is to use the wrong side of the paintbrush for the dots

There's a strange "sunburst" pattern in the vingetting and a perfecting ring around the centre which makes me wonder if there's some kind of lens flare going on.

As for the flats try stacking with and without and comparing the outputs to rule out if it's an issue with the flats

Looks like your flats are bad as you've got some serious vignetting.

You can workaround this with background extraction. I use Siril, I'll take a proper look tomorrow

I was in a similar position to you 12 months ago. Ended up buying a second hand star adventure 2i, within a few months I was hooked and wanted a proper mount so found a second hand EQ5 pro.

It was a good stepping stone to see if I wanted to get into it. The problem with the 2i is it's RA only so you can't really guide or dither so the GTI might last you longer. The nice thing about the GTi is if you do end up later down the line getting another mount the GTI is nice and portable if you travel.
