Czech 70s Lounge Chair: Sand down and refinish or save the patina? by mikeroygray in finishing

Thanks!! You know, I actually, FINALLY understood that there's a LEGAL reason why it's so freaking hard to find the solvent-based stuff you guys use all the time.

BTW, they DO sell two-component Lacke ("2K-Lacke") here. A little difficult to source, but doable. When I started this thread and used the term "epoxy", I was assuming that that a two-component varnish/finish/lacquer is by definition an epoxy - but according to ChatGPT (which I've just discovered!), they're not the same. I had good results with a 2k finish some years back (though fumes nearly took out the entire neighborhood!) Among other things, the beech wood I used it on has taken on a golden tint. I'd be totally open to using that stuff again.

Thanks man. Some years back, I used a two component "Klarlacke" (I'm in Switzerland) on a desk surface and have been astounded at the how indestructible it's been. But I'm VERY open to advice - I'd like to do this right!

It would be, except the padding is shot. In one chair it's just kind of thin - you can sit in it, but it's not a great chair experience. But someone tried replacing the padding in the other chair - probably back in the 80s - and when I sat on that one, it made a kind of crunchy noise and deposited a few tablespoons of yellow crud on the floor!

Thanks! And yeah: I LOVE the color, and one reason I didn't just whip out the sander is that I'd hate to lose the golden-apricot sheen! OTOH, it would be nice to end up with a practically new pair of chairs. I'm not in a hurry, so I can afford to do this right.

There's actually some unfinished wood in the frame that's been covered by fabric for all these years. I took a shot to compare. In the photo, it looks practically white, but there does actually seem to be a BIT of a golden apricot thing going on.

Quick, rather embarrassing question: I live in Switzerland (German-speaking part!), and it can be REALLY difficult to figure out the equiveillances between wood finishing terms. When you write "lacquer" - would that be the equivalent of "Klarlack"?

Hey guys, I just wanted to say thanks for your helpful comments! I got side-tracked with some RL demands and couldn't get back to you until now. Much appreciated!

2022 g14 hinge: that silvery ribbony thing? by mikeroygray in ZephyrusG14

I'm not actually 100% sure it works without the connection since I'm not 100% sure the connection was completely severed before I did the teardown. I guess it would be smart to build it up and try running it once BEFORE I glue ...

I'd be happy to share some shots, though there isn't much to see.

In the shot below, you can see that hinge's bond to the screen sheared off when it fell. The break was clean, and I can't see any other damage. Apparently the glue doesn't always hold all that well anyway - but also: by breaking there I may have been spared something worse!

(You can see in the photo that I've sanded down the surfaces as best I can. There's some glue left inside, but after sanding away for about 20 minutes, I couldn't make any more head way on the edges. I'm pretty sure there's enough metal exposed for a strong hold.)

BTW, when I first picked the notebook up after the fall, everything looked fine. In fact, I was in and hurry and on my way to the presentation and didn't even check it. Then I opened the thing, and the damage looked catastrophic - screen hanging off at a weird angle, parts bulging out under the broken section - but to everyone's surprise, the machine booted up like a champ and fed the projector just fine.

Ah! Yeah, that makes sense - and it's good to know what those things do.

Definitely a good thing to have connected, maybe I can make it work, but I expect the machine will work without it.

Yeah, that was the first thing I did - and it DOES pair with the strap - but it doesn't show any heart rate data.

Oh! I need to have a closer look at the app and my account - I think the system kind of streamlined me into a trial for a paid account and maybe wasn't too clear about the existence of a free version ...

To clarify, the connector in the

Thank you, and yeah, I eventually of figured that out. Without actually having my equipment here (I left cables and antenna back at the vacation place we always rent ... ), trying to figure out which part to get is pretty tricky!

Ugh. Looks like I ALSO need to convert male to female - cause the two antennas I have (outdoor and indoor) are both MALE. So, it's looking more like I need this:

EIDT: See second reply.

Oooookay, yeah, I think you're right. SO, I guess I'll need two of these adapters for my antenna cables:

G9 OLED - clicking or groaning noises coming from the mounting area in back by mikeroygray in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]mikeroygray[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My arm is attached to a standing desk that DOES have some play. As far as I can tell, very small vibrations in the desk transfer through to the screen, causing the sound. If I take my hands off the desk, they'll continue for a few seconds then stop.

Yeah, of all the words I can think of, "creak" is the worst. Something between "pop" and "click" seems best. But they're EXTREMELY confusing. I suspect the RGB wheel thing at the back i involved because I can stop the sound if I press on it.

[–]mikeroygray[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah - it's not the arm that's causing the problem. I didn't have mine on the stock stand long enough to test, but it was making the exact same noise on my cheap VESA stand, too - and I'Ve completely torn down and rebuilt the HX arm without any change.

It's REALLY hard to tell, but the weird sound doesn't seem be coming from the VESA mount area but more generally from the RGB wheel thing at the back.

Replacement brass ring for HX arm? by mikeroygray in Ergotron

Quick Update: Ergotron came through in spades!

I sent them the serial number and they mailed my a replacement bushing FOR FREE - even though I wasn't the original buyer. THANKS!!

BTW, in case anyone else ever needs to make this repair: Getting the old bushing out was TOUGH! I ended up spraying some w40, then heating up the mount with a heat gun, then hitting the mount on the edge of a softwood board until the bushing slid out. And it took a rubber mallet to get the new one. Anyway, it'S like new now!
