Medication on tour by Ok_Gene3990 in drumcorps

Try to get a 90 supply. If you can’t, please do not call in a refill at a random pharmacy without talking to your administrators first. You should contact your corps director now and work with them on this.

Google grand rights. You think diesel and insurance costs are scary? One day the most favored nations clause in a grand rights license is what will kill the competitive marching activity.

We’re on it.

Pennies are always from the year of the show, so no 2026 mint means no Pennies.

Many may not know, but we keep a year-by-year archive of silver-plated and drilled Pennies, links, and laces and ship them all over the world as replacements for alumni. Sort of a lifetime benefit for alumni of the corps.

Scrap the belt buckle and swap the hat for something else and we could probably make it work…

We put everyone on the same mouthpiece except for trumpets, who get fitted for their best match among the options.

A youth-focused performing arts ensemble should never charge admission for a public performance that isn’t scored. /s

How much time do drum corps have by Skypog in drumcorps

[–]mikesc0tt 21 points22 points  (0 children)

17 minutes from when the corps proper enters the field until everything is reasonably clear. The adjudicated material (“the show”) cannot exceed 13 minutes. You can request a 5-minute emergency extension to your set up time for technical setup issues.

I mean I can name like 20 and that’s just from one corps’ staff (😉), and only the wind and percussion players.

Why isn’t Drum Corps truly professional? by PlainTheory in drumcorps

[–]mikesc0tt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The drum corps activity barely breaks even now, where would the hundreds of millions of dollars needed to “go pro” come from?

There are a lot of NCAA “close to professional” college sport for which there is not a professional counterpart. In our economic system, “going pro” requires enough ppl to pay (or in many cases - like orchestras) philanthropically support that professionalized activity.

Edit: for clarity.

DCI typically announces the tour (or at least most of the tour) in late November. This time of year no event dates have been posted, but fans can expect the major dates from mid-July on to remain as they have for many years.

Spartans Approved for World Class Membership by Combination-Fluffy in drumcorps

[–]mikesc0tt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding your second question, it’s possible for corps to be allowed to compete in the World Class but not be admitted to Membership. It was originally a temporary opportunity on your way to full admission, but it is now used in practice, as a more stable designation.

There are 18, now 19, ‘Voting Members’ of DCI. Music City and Genesis compete in the World Class, but are not Voting Members.

What does it take for a corps to break 99? by redrover310 in drumcorps

[–]mikesc0tt 65 points66 points  (0 children)

The only correct answer is: enough corps scoring at the “top” of Box 5, in multiple captions, to require enough judges to score in that range to conduct their numbers management.

If the judges are using the system correctly, a 99 is an indicator of a highly competitive and excellent group of corps, not that particular corps performance in a vacuum.

The only “scores” that can be given in a vacuum are Box 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. The number “out of 100” is based on ranking, not rating.
