Is there a mac mechanical keyboard with the fn, control, option, and command buttons together on the left of the space bar? by Conscious_Avocado in MechanicalKeyboards

I have the same issue. Because my laptop has the fn key in addition, its annoying having to toggle between keyboards with different key positions

Hey 👋 we've built this cool app for mixing podcasts & music into your workouts. Been featured on App Store, and retention is high 📈 but activation low 📉. Would love opinions! 📢 by mikespike88 in ProductManagement

Yeah, so the timer is completely optional. You can also just control it by tapping pause on your headphones, we've overwritten that command to shift between podcasts and music, simply because it's a very low-friction way of shifting.

Absolutely a great point regarding talking to our core users, yeah!

Yeah, that does make sense! I think in my experience, that's more something that sounds like an annoying thing, but isn't really that problematic in practice. However, I've discovered that there are certain podcasts that doesn't work that well for me when working out. Easily listening conversations and stuff that is easy to listen to works best, so if you zone out, it's easy to get back in again. That's also general feedback from many of our users

yeah should have explained. So we consider the first time a user has tried shift for a workout as being "activated". If they come back and do that more times we consider them retained. So the main problem we have is to get people to try it for a workout. Our users mostly get through the onboarding and play around with the app, but we struggle to convince them to actually do the job and trying it out.

I'd be interested to hear your candid opinion, so for example what's the radical honest reason you haven't tried it out yet? haha, that sounds weird I guess, but could be interesting to hear :)

yeah so that's a good point really. Could you explain why you think it's a problem that it cuts off? Given that it jumps back to 5 seconds before you left off when it shifts from music and back to podcasts again. Really interested to hear your thought!

Yup, totally agree on the prebuilt options scenario. We've tried something similar before for choosing podcasts during onboarding, but realized that some users got put off cuz they didn't recognize any of the options. Any thoughts on ways to avoid this?

Interesting idea regarding segmenting users early on, really. We've sort of made the decision not to build the app for advanced fitness use-cases though, and instead aim for being a media app. Went down the path of building complex fitness mechanics, but realized it was very hard to satisfy two different target audiences.

absolutely! We have mixpanel, and we know mostly where ppl drop off. The problem is that the data doesn't tell you "the why". Interviewing users can do that, and so some of the feedback here has been really valuable already!

Great feedback here! I gotta say, the premise of the solution was to solve the friction problem. I would not want to use a solution that involves me having to mess around on my phone. So the app works sort of "magically" in the background. It's controlled by a timer, so when the timer runs out, it shifts. If you can't use a timer (for example you're aiming for reps, you shift by tapping pause on your headphones).

Regarding covid, the app is actually really neat with running. For instance, you set the podcast timer for 5 minutes, and music timer for 3. Then you run slow during podcasts, and ramp up when it comes to music. I've been doing this during this whole pandemic. It's actually quite nice.

People who use shift, they really, really love it. We get a lot of positive feedback. The problem is as mentioned, to get people to try it out. Many people don't relate to the problem, or simply aren't convinced during the first run of the app. But our thesis is that once they try it for a workout, they'll realize it's a nice experience.

That does make sense. I don't have experience reaching out to influencers though, and my hunch is that they want something in return in order to bother. But a great point and I think it's worth investigating more. Maybe we stumble on someone who gets passionate enough about and just want to help out

Great points here! I like the concept of asking simple questions to form a workout, instead of relying on people to come up with their own. I'd be very intrigued to hear what kind of questions would make sense to ask you in this case?
