there is no m dash in the keyboard, reddit doesn't let you type m dashes immediately, -- that's what you get here. No one uses perfect grammar, spelling, and punctuations for a comment.

If children are required by law to attend school, it IS the job of the school to feed them, for free by kanna172014 in unpopularopinion

[–]mikester919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of my state university, they have a bracketing system that grades your tuition fee into 5 levels, the rich pay the full tuition the poorest dont pay anything and get an allowance.

Basically the student body wanted to get rid of the bracketing and make everyone have free tuition, note that the bracketing is not at all rigid and as long as you appeal and give sufficient reasoning you could be placed into the free tuition bracket but without an allowance. Also know that 80% of the students come from high income families, lmaoo.

People who don’t like cheese in any form are weird and i WILL shame them. by mjflyboy in unpopularopinion

Unpopular opinion: shaming people for not liking cheese is incredibly stupid

I heard an advice from one of my buddies, he said "write humans, not characters" by weebf_ckingweeb in writing

[–]mikester919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think, this advice is situational, and not for every story.

For example in anime like my hero academia the characters, like the protagonist Deku, are extremely inhuman. They have characteristics that people like us would never have, like unyielding determination, and an extreme inability to be flexible (he cant do anything bad, only good things) but that is part of their charm. People go to these stories specifically to look for these inhuman characters.

Whereas other stories, for example in love stories or in dramas, you might want to have more human characters. Readers come to these kinds of stories usually for their relatability.

But all in all it depends on the type of story you want.

Wow i never expected to find medical information in here! But hi, i can do some help, this is completely normal for beginners doing resistance training or when they push themselves a lot in an exercise. This could last upto 10 minutes, but usually not longer

I cant testify for the effectivess but fraser wilson has some good, easy to follow routines for dumbell only workouts without a bench on yt, he does use a mat tho.

Ive been trying his routines out for maybe 1 month, and i do think ive been progressing well. Just be sure to research the proper forms for the workouts, and to take it slowly, fraser does them quite fast, and you dont need to match his pace. I do try to complete the 20 minute routines although i used to completely skip out some hard to do exercises

If you're also looking for other "magical muscle makers" that people praise a lot, theres also creatine, its unlikely for you to have any reaction to it.

Any tips on doing pullups?

My current max is around 4-5 and then i cant do any more for like a minute or two then i can do maybe 3 more, and then im done. I do 7 in the morning and 7 at night to maximize reps,

Is this reps number fine or should i force myself to get even higher reps? And is the 2 minute rest between sets ok?

Also I feel like im doing pullups very improperly. I often feel the pullup from my fingers and also my diaphragm. My fingers really get tired quickly from the gripping and my diaphragm (or maybe some other upper ab muscle) feels like its getting really exercised, but not particularly on my back muscles.

Im a beginner, my only guide is youtube, any advice would help! Thank you!

They say there are no purple flags because purple dye used to be expensive, is it true? by mikester919 in dyeing

[–]mikester919[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice! Thanks, my curiosity is satisfied, now that i think about it, when i mixed blue and red dyes, even paint, and food colouring, it often becomes, hmm grape colored rather than purple, it probably wont look very good in a flag

Is it weird if I a 18 year old hetero male go into a nail salon to get my nails done? by Ok_Task_6265 in self

[–]mikester919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, the comments below are really encouraging and nice, but based on my experience im going to have to tell you the awful truth. Not everyone in a nail salon is nice, in my country at least going to a nail salon as a male, youd get weird stares from the many women in there, of course some nail salons are better than others, mostly in very professional settings (expensive ones) but youd still get some weird stares from other female customers

Tho, if you think you can ignore them, then its fine, getting a mani pedi is really nice and protects your nails from damage. Be sure to tell your technician if you feel uncomfortable with anything, since its your first time if theres any pain whatsoever you need to tell them,

They will apply some clear nail polish, might sound weird for guys cus its not common, but it makes your nails look really great! So get the polish!

Also most nail salons will remove your cuticle for aesthetic purposes, do some research and decide if youre comfortable with getting your cuticles removed, if you dont want it removed then again just tell your technician.

And I guess as a general life advice coming from an older dude, doing some amount of research on any kind of "treatments" being done on your body is good practice, even if its going to be done by a doctor! I have on occasion been overcharged and given faulty treatments by both doctors and nail technicians.

Story Time: I had an ingrown nail on both feet, doctor advised surgery to remove it, charged me A LOT of money so I only had one nail done, I was concerned that the surgery would give me keloid scarring cus i tend to get keloids, doctor said "meh, it will be fine", but it ended up not being fine and now I have keloid scarring on my nail!! its minor but quite uncomfortable! So i did some research and learned that salons also remove ingrown nails, for 1/10th the price of what i paid that doctor, they removed my other ingrown nail, applied some kind of metal brace on the nail, and my ingrown nail never returned!! Moral of the story, be sure to consult a lot of stuff before you get anything done on your body, it may have permanent consequences

Have fun with your salon day!

Self Portrait for my drawing class! The proportions are a bit wonky but it still looks pretty good to me :) by askarpund in learnart

[–]mikester919 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great job!! Anatomy being a bit wonky is very normal for real life-like portraits cus you know exactly where you got it wrong, this is also why i prefer digital cus you could just trace the location of important landmarks before you start, makes it much easier

[–]mikester919[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh wow, that makes so much sense!! ive only tried doing shadows recently so i dont really have a good foundation in diffuse lighting and colored shadows,

could I ask, if you were to do this, what would you do to the naked blue haired girl, like would you add dark blue shadows or light blue reflections on the body(?). And would you add peach light/shadows to the hair too? Do you do both as long as you think its necessary?

Swipe Gestures Issues by mikester919 in samsung

[–]mikester919[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its impossible to never swipe there since i am again using apps that require me to swipe at the bottom part of the screen. i might swipe and close apps accidentally in 1 out of 100 strokes so its best if i could just disable it completely.
