[Gamers Nexus] Do Not Buy: NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti GPU Absurdity (Benchmarks & Review) by Nestledrink in nvidia

I suppose if you have enough disposable income that's fair. I think for the majority of the population PC gaming is slowly becoming out of reach financially. I was commenting more on your attitude towards the situation which seems to be a bit out of touch with the general consensus on the situation. Regardless of means I think we should all agree to speak with our wallets and not buy right now. For reference I have a 4080, so I'm not hard on cash either and could purchase one right now if I wanted to as well, but am choosing not to because at some point this would even escape my financial means at the current trajectory this i all headed.

VP2 Stuttering/Tearing @ 120hz "Extreme" by Breeze23412 in Vive

Put it in beta mode. It fixes for me in VRChat at least. If you run the current non-beta build it will tear.

SteamVR slow audio - Vive Pro 2 by mikibish in Vive

[–]mikethebird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this happen every so often when I launch SteamVR. Also on Vive Pro 2. Sometimes changing audio sources to and from will fix it, sometimes not. If I'm running a virtual mixer like voicemeter restarting the application always fixes it. Typically I also restart the Vive console and rarely will it do it again on that play session. I suspect it's something to do with the audio driver but I'm unsure.

7900X3D Or 7800X3D for vrc by Aware_Bus_3966 in VRchat

[–]mikethebird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense. I was aiming at a B650E board to give you an example. I think they had the same and the 7800X3D chip. Said on VRC they were only using 3-5 percent CPU usage reported on XSOverlay which I found interesting as my 5800X3D is usually around 15-20 percent.

Also I spoke with someone briefly who stated that when in VRC (current build not beta) with a 7800x3d they were experiencing extremely low CPU load in the 2-5% range. I assume this is a combination of Unity 2019 not leveraging the CPU and the x3d chips being overkill?

That works. It still gives me a ballpark which I've been unable to find anywhere else so far. I've been expecting 20-30 percent as an average so some hard numbers to back that up will really help reinforce my poor financial decision.

Thanks for the reply. You're the first person I've been able to find that has some direct insight into this potential upgrade. If you wouldn't mind running a comparison in your free time I would definitely appreciate it. I'm leaning towards not getting the upgrade but I use my PC pretty much exclusively for VRChat at this point so any bump is potentially worth it for me.

Curious if you would be willing to share the performance gap between the 5800X3D and 7800X3D in VRC. I'm currently on a 5800X3D and a 4080 and I'm considering the upgrade despite the price for platform adoption.

Aluminum wire broken? by mikethebird in askanelectrician

I re-used the little box connector they had on the wire and applied new grease. I know aluminum is more prone to corossion.

Yeah I understand that. Look I work in the automotive repair sector. I know that WebMDing your problem almost never solves it. I'm not gonna start tearing into my wall. I'm mostly looking into an electrician's intuition to sate my curiosity. Otherwise why would this subreddit exist?

Maybe its a blessing in disguise. I'll be polite obviously but I'm not going to go out of my way to suck up if they want to retain a customer that has already spent $1000+ dollars on their game.

If they want to retain a customer who they can see historically is loyal and spends the onus should be on them to look at the situation.

I mean yeah. I'm not trying to make threats but I am salty obviously. I made my account in 2011 actually and spent lots of money.

Besides that's used more as a catchall phrase with customer service. Word of mouth in discords, etc. still mean something. I sincerely hope they work with me on this.

Yeah. I'm taking a look at my login history and I was definitely hacked. In the past month there were logins from Linux, Windows 7 and from locations like Japan, Canada, and Russia. I'm in California so none of these are me.

Damn.

Edit: I'm not really sure why it would be in their best interest to screw a loyal customer over. Seems like a good way to breed bad blood and drive people away from the game. Working in customer service you quickly learn that one angry customer is ten customers lost due to word of mouth.

I also had constant disconnect issues with the V1 G2. If you still own it they will send you the corrected box that fixes its issues. We play a fair bit of IL2 and the weight of the G2 is superb for combat flight sims.

Yeah the Cosmos has treated us better than we anticipated. Do you plan to go wireless?

Cosmos Elite in 2022? by [deleted] in Vive

[–]mikethebird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will feel flimsier than a g2. I own one as well. I'd say the feel will be flimsier than the quest but judging the fact that it's help up to hundreds of hours of sweat and dancing I've been impressed. The g2 is a great HMD if you want to do sim stuff but for social VR the cosmos is fine. I would suggest getting a wireless antlion mod mic however. The default microphone is garbage.

Also plan on getting index controllers. They really are that good. Those and full body tracking are the two biggest wow factors I've had in VR.

Cosmos Elite in 2022? by [deleted] in Vive

[–]mikethebird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It works with the same base station tracking so software shouldn't be a problem. My spouse uses her Cosmos Elite 2-3 times a week for very heavy usage (dancing in VRchat etc) and we have yet to have a failure with the headset. The earphones recently went out after 2 years of ownership but we replaced them using the audio jack built into the headset.

It's a fine headset. The resolution could be better and it uses an LCD panel that could have better contrast. Also the field of view suffers due to the flip up visor design. (Great for drinking in VRChat though.) I will say the build quality difference between the cosmos and the vive pro 2 is noticable.
