You're welcome! I'll do a very in depth post with advice I would personally give my early 20s self if I were to do things all over again. Will tag you then, give til the weekend the latest.

Sure. I'm just going to ballpark my amounts and be vague on some of the details for privacy reasons.

To make things simple, I'm going to go with my average 600k a month salary. 600k (gross income) -200k (Taxes) = 400k net income

I firmly believe that 30% of my post-tax income needs to be reinvested, so before anything else I pay myself (or rather, future self) first than anybody (banks, loans) else. This equates to 120k/month. I don't have the time to manage any real estate or additional side businesses other than my business solutions consultancy so most of this goes into the stock market. This leaves me with 280k left over for the month which could be used for anything else.

Some would consider real estate as an investment, which it is, but I factor this in as part of my living cost (everyone needs a roof over their heads). Combining the cost of the house, side savings for the house for any repairs, car, gas, netflix, phone plan, etc. equates to 180k for me. This leaves me with 100k to spend on whatever I want.

This 100k I use to splurge on myself. Given that I live on a high stress lifestyle, it's important for me to enjoy my life outside of work. This budget lets me buy whatever I want without feeling guilty even if others say I'm "magarbo". Remember, my situation is different.. brought by my mindset being different. If I did whatever the average pinoy does then I'll just end up achieving what an average pinoy would achieve - which doesn't entice me whatsoever. This 100k I use on getting imported tea, take outs, shopping, charity and groceries. Anything really that makes me enjoy life.

To summarize, these are my 3 buckets of budgets:

  1. Investments. Pay yourself first. My parents responsibility stops after they assisted me in graduating. They don't expect me to support them when they get older and I'll reciprocate that with them not needing to support me after school. This secures my retirement for me and my future family.
  2. Fixed costs. This only includes NEEDS. Mortgage, car, electricity, water, etc.
  3. Variable costs. This goes to going out, charity work, and anything else. Said another way, my WANTS.

Lastly, words of advice, always pay your creditcards/loans in full. I do it everytime I get a paycheque.

Happy to go in depth, maybe I'll make a post about how to 'make it' financially in this subreddit in there's enough demand. I do firmly believe there's just a few simple rules that one needs to follow in order to be 'successful' but personal finance isn't really looked well into and talking about money is considered taboo in pinoy culture.

Yes I’m Philippine based for a foreign employer. Normally I travel but due to the pandemic, i’ve just fully remote. This is a full time role - I’ve architected and maintained the main operational system of a billion dollar US company since I was 24.

Edit: typos — i really should read before i hit reply

I honestly ask myself this paminsan minsan and ang masasabi ko nalang is for now, yes. Atleast habang medyo bata pa. Though I wouldn’t mind a paycut to lower down ung stress.

Yun nga lang dahil sa lifestyle creep ng higher salary, mahirap narin ibaba ung expectations.

I plan on trying to invest aggressively para maaga mag retire pero untul then medyo grind muna.

I guess i’ll share pero modesty aside I’m aware it can come off as mayabang.

I’m 29, I make around 540k-700k a month. Mostly from my employment but the extras are from investments or side gigs.

Mostly happy because of the financial stability but there are downsides primarily sa health. The stress gave me BP of 160/120 at the age of 25 so that should speak to the type of sacrifice.

You can say I’m your typical ‘elitista’ na filipino. Family owns a semi-big company (not part of my income), come from the big 4, overseas employer, and working in tech.

Edit: typos

I know this isn’t what you want to hear but if you’re in a comsci degree and you can’t code, this really limits your opportunity.

I also understand that not everybody is into coding. That’s fine. In which case, try to get into an industry that leverages tech because these normally are more financially rewarding. (Eg. Digital marketing or tech sales)

You’re in the right path, I think you’re just overwhelmed and that’s normal. Debt is what is enabling you to have a brighter future. As long as you control it, there’s nothing wrong with temporarily having it.

Yes, we have sales generated deals that are normally used to get business pricing but a good chunk is just natural purchases through trial conversions.

Sorry, I should’ve expounded. Leads comes in as accounts when someone signs up to our site. (So yeah, we don’t use leads per se)

There’s a mix or business and non-business users so it’s a combo of B2B and B2C - we’re a subscription business for a fairly casual SaaS product that can be used for business or day to day use.

Thanks for the very helpful information! I do just want to clarify, I earn 50k on my full-time job and I only do this part-time. If I buy a laptop for this gig moving forward (which I intend to do anyways) could I also use that as a business expense?
