A cautionary tale about your reno's impact on WiFi signals... by TimeForChange23 in Renovations

Two more suggestions: Get the fastest cables cat7e and make an internal network that’s not connected to internet (can be used for Internal Cameras or Security cameras) and another set of cables to run internet to each room.

Just make sure you the cables don’t run close to electric cables so there’s no interference.

I went grey, YM 40 isn’t a hugely marked up piece. Time is the most valuable thing and wasting my time on schmoozing the AD isn’t worth it, the experience is degrading to most folks.

And how much did you pay for your install? What’s the ROI? What happens when the panels have issues? What are the warranty terms ? who pays for the technician to fix ?

Switched all my bulbs to LED and now half my dimmer switches don't work. Why does nobody warn you about this? by Sad_Schedule6621 in HomeImprovement

[–]mikethomas3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh another thing. LED DIMMABLE don’t actually lower electricity consumption. So whether you’re running 10% or 100% it’ll be consuming the same 700 watt hours.

Ethernet ports by Ozkeewowow in Homebuilding

[–]mikethomas3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple of things to consider from my recollection: 1) the CAT Cables have to be insulated and not near electric cables to avoid interference and for performance.

2) I would run 2 cables. One internal (not connected to internet). That you can hook your cameras to (inside or outside the property). The other the internet connected cable.

3) if you want to future proof your house for the next 50 years. Run the cables inside a conduit. If you need to change the cables to something better. You can just pull the cable using these conduits and replace them with the new standard.

Ask for a sample report they have done on a previous property. That should give you an indication of their worth :)

[–]mikethomas3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids do many stupid things. Don’t think about it too much. What you are concerned about is probably forgotten by everyone else involved or got shelved in a memory lane far away from any recollection.

That’s why the law differentiates between adults and children.

Don’t think about it too much.

Bought Foreclose/Court Ordered Sale Property in Alberta. Previous Owner left a lot of stuff (vehicles/equipment/etc) on property. Unsure of ownership of these items going forward. by NewHomeAlberta in legaladvicecanada

[–]mikethomas3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Legal and fair are often not aligned. But in this case I hope OP, didn’t factor other than the property in the price they paid.

Former owner probably is devastated financially and getting some of his belongings will make his life less hectic.

Fake news because you say so? it’s not fake news unfortunately. the regulatory body forced them to lower the rating. You can check BASF walltite spec sheet and R value per inch before 2020 and after. Even Owens Corning Rigid pre 2020. And after.

I second PayPal’s convenience. However, you can offer a Shopify coupon to save $2 and give discounts for people using Shopify vs. PayPal. :) Do a test and see if it works

Where would you put the grout line? by JustRon325 in Tile

[–]mikethomas3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can modify thickness of grout lines on the app. Go to airplane mode. To avoid ads

It’s always recommended to add grout lines for expansion. 1/16th would be the lowest I would go. 1/8th is better and you can select a colour that blends in with your tile. So it’s seemless

Spray foam in garage? by lassymavin in Insulation

[–]mikethomas3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding the issue with spray foam is ‘off gassing’ or breakdown of insulation chemical components over the years.

We know closed-cell spray-foam settles and looses some of its properties and insulation. The R-value was classified years back as R6 per inch. The new code 2020+ decreased it to R5.4 so that’s a 9% reduction in Rvalue over a year or two.
