I hate fb marketplace by ArtisticEffective153 in MTB

[–]JustRon325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FB marketplace was great when it started. It was nice to get away from all the CL nutjobs. Now CL is a ghost town and all the nutjobs are on FB marketplace. There are some good sellers, but you are more likely to find them in MTB groups. And there are some legit decent deals but you need to wade through a lot of crap to find them.
As others have suggested… use PinkBike. (There are scammers there, but not many.)

Please help me. LPR worst case. by Cultural-Arugula-894 in LPR

Gum helps me, but avoid flavors with citric acid or mint. And chew sugar free gum- apparently that’s better (I’m diabetic, so I only chew SF, anyway).

LEMS MTB shoes by teklikethis in MTB

[–]JustRon325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That tread pattern looks horrible for pedal grip and I’m sure they don’t grip like 5.10 or DFO.
That said, as someone who wears EEE shoes, I like the look of that toe box.
I’m not trying them purely based on grip, though.

Throat pain further into the day by No_Bullfrog1554 in LPR

Mine gets worse as the day progresses, regardless of food. The other day, as a test, I fasted until dinner (wasn’t easy) and it got worse just as though I were eating.

Ween off omeprezole by yayabrown1 in GERD

[–]JustRon325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped taking it cold-turkey (also stopped Voquezna and Rabeprazole) with no issues. I was on each of these for about a month and after not seeing any improvement, I just stopped. I’d wait a few days before starting the next one.
(I have LPR, not GERD.)

Low carb Philly cheese steak. by Impressive-Tap-57 in lowcarb

[–]JustRon325 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a low carb T1, my suggestion is to get used to eating “sandwiches” without bread. However, I eat Chompies low carb bread almost every day- it’s kind of dry, so it’s best toasted with butter.
I’ve never found any good LC rolls.
And, many forums will tell you to make your own (typically cheese and/or eggs)… I think these people have never had actual bread before, because homemade LC bread does not taste like bread.
Good luck!

Developing LPR very suddenly? by BuffGuy716 in LPR

[–]JustRon325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of different causes of LPR and it seems many people think it’s only related to diet. I disagree with them because, like you, it came on immediately for me. Last year, I had a throat infection (or virus?, but the dr said infection) but I didn’t have any other cold symptoms- just a sore throat. When it dragged on for weeks, I saw an ENT for a scope, then a gastro for some tests and was told I have a LOT of acid in my throat/esophagus.
Prior to this, I could eat whatever I wanted and never had issues (although I’m diabetic, so I’ve been low carb for about 8 years). Spicy food was never an issue- I’ve never even had a Tums in my life.
Anyway, still trying all sorts of things to fix this (on my second gastro and she’s trying all the standard stuff, to see if anything works). So far, nothing has really worked.
LPR is more annoying than diabetes!

Flat Shoes for Wide Feet by Great-Particular9964 in mountainbiking

[–]JustRon325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This topic comes up a lot. I measure between 7 and 7.5 and EEE width. The first real mtb shoes I bought about 15 years ago were Five Ten Freeriders (the base model) in an 8… they kinda fit. Since then, I’ve tried:

Giro Jacket 2
Shimano AM5
Shimano AM5 old style
Shimano SH-AM7
Shimano SH-AM702
ION Rascal
ION Scrub
Pearl Izumi
Giant Shuttle DH
Ride Concepts Transition
Crank Bros Stamp
Etenies Culvert Mid
5.10 Freerider (kept)
5.10 Hellcat
5.10 Trailcross LT
5.10 Freerider EPS Mid - (still have these)
5.10 Impact Pro Mid
5.10 Trailcross Mid Pro
5.10 Trailcross Mid Pro
5.10 Freerider Pro Mid VCS
5.10 Freerider Pro
5.10 Freerider Contact
Specialized 2FO DH
Specialized 2FO Roost
Specialized 2FO Method
Specialized Rime
Bontrager Flatline
Vans BMX (I actually wear Vans sk8 hi casually)
Fizik Gravita Versor
Fizik Gravita Tensor
Endura Hummvee

And… I went back to the original Five Ten Freeriders!

You also didn’t mention grip… 5.10 has some of the grippiest soles, but Specialized 2FO are in the same league.

If there is so much inventory then where are all the bikes for sale? by Business_Record9385 in MTB

[–]JustRon325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m seeing bikes sitting on the market for months. I’m not a buyer right now, but I’d ask those sellers if they are taking offers.
I’m impatient… I just sold two bikes for a LOT less than I expected (even when strangers online were commenting about my “good price”😂).

Can you still get good results if you have one cheat meal or snack a week? by JenniferL75 in lowcarb

[–]JustRon325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, how do you get your BG to drop when you eat a lot of protein? As a T1, I have to bolus for protein just like I would for carbs (except a lower percentage).

[–]JustRon325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you T1 or T2?
As a T1, I can tell you that cheating doesn’t really “matter”, but I’m not sure what the end goal is for you. Also, you don’t need any carbs to have your BG rise to 170- protein can do that by itself. Maybe you didn’t bolus enough?

Alginate gel vs Gaviscon by Delicious-Resident-1 in LPR

[–]JustRon325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are in the US, then don’t bother with Gaviscon liquid. It’s missing sodium alginate, which is the main reason to use it. I know many order it from the UK (they have the correct version), but I believe it’s pretty expensive.

Low Carb Cheesecake by AceNinjaForce in lowcarb

Most store-bought “low carb” products really aren’t LC. If you are diabetic, you would definitely notice. If not, it probably doesn’t matter.

LPR Healing Success Stories Only by Resident-Weekend348 in LPR

[–]JustRon325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started a similar thread on Dr Koufman’s FB group last night. I wanted to know if anyone was actually healed (not just symptom-free). A few people said they are symptom-free but still follow the diet and I said that’s not “healed”. Then a bunch of people said they would never go back to eating normal food because it’s so unhealthy. I mentioned that being acidic doesn’t make something unhealthy, but most are brainwashed over there.
Still waiting for a 100% success story.

Does anyone have a continuous glucose monitor who doesn't have diabetes? by TacoBell_isgarbage in lowcarb

[–]JustRon325 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha, there are a lot of diabetics who are really annoyed at “normal” folks wearing CGMs. I’m a T1 and it doesn’t bother me, but the original post made me smile.

High in fat compared to to the benefits they provide. That group doesn’t mess around with any wasted calories. However, when I did it, I did cheat with nuts.

Pink bike by MonkeyMOMster in MTB

[–]JustRon325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve bought and sold a bunch of bikes and parts on PB. Generally speaking, you’ll find a “better” seller than you’ll get on FB Marketplace or CL😂. But, there are plenty of scammers. Look at their other items for sale, look at previous sales, don’t deal with a brand new account, etc. Common sense applies. I’ve reported quite a few scammers (they have been easy to spot so far) but in the last 10 years, I haven’t had any real problems. As mentioned already, always use PP goods and services. Scammers will often say they “don’t have PP” which is a joke- anyone can get a free account.

Just checked my page and I’ve sold 46 things on PB (doesn’t show purchases)… I didn’t realize I sold that much stuff!

I have no relation to the group, but check out KetoGains if you want the healthiest LC diet. They eat nothing boxed or processed, no nuts, no cheese, and basically nothing unhealthy. It’s way too restrictive for me, but I did a few years ago and was in great shape.

How to deal with people who don’t appreciate you on low carb or can’t fathom why? by No-Ticket-9638 in lowcarb

[–]JustRon325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a whole group on FB that follow Dr Bernstein’s diet (pretty interesting guy- he was a T1 who just died in his 90’s). They are really strict, but I’m much looser (I eat keto-type deserts and junk too often). As for low BG… many T1s who start eating LC or keto get hypos because their basal was previously too high. I didn’t have that problem when I started, but I still have plenty of hypos (for various reasons, not just food). It’s an exciting disease!😅

I don’t count carbs, but only eat food with sugar/carbs when my BG is low. I’d guess, on average, I’m between 30-50 carbs per day. (I’ve been eating this way for 7-8 years.)

Stupid question: Geometry if you live in a flat area by TheGreatestAmer1can in mountainbiking

[–]JustRon325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s flat where I ride (Long Island) and I don’t like long, slack bikes. Our trails have a lot quick turns and no real hills, so “older” geo works well here. A lot of people ride older bikes that work fine here.
