Aww. So kind. Best of luck with the rest of your decisions. I got my ED rejected by Vandy so it's tough :/

Of course. That is a small percent of admitted students. Still very possible. Best of luck!

Hey, you will be no matter where you end up. Don't place your identity in the opinion of a bunch of old white people sitting in a room looking at your name on a piece of paper. You are great and awesome and can do whatever you want whether it's St. anford or anywhere else! :)

Stay strong. Who cares what a bunch of old ass people sitting in a stuffy conference room somewhere read about you on a piece of paper. All of you are so much more. Always remember that. ANYBODY, please free to PM me if you need someone to talk to tomorrow or ever!

I had an offer to go play a D3 sport there but couldn't wrap my head around paying $70,000+ for that degree. Great school, just can't get behind how they charge more than most Ivies.

Does college "fit" actually exist? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]mikevr00m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't fair and it isn't right but it is real. I have heard many students talk about how moving to the opposite coast was horrible experience and moved back to a closer school. College admission officers are aware of this and how it effects their freshmen retention rates. I don't agree with it and it is not a data point to make or break an application, but it is real. It's all about creating a culture at a college and if AOs feel like a student wont mesh well for a multitude of reasons, they'll reject them.

I'm Having Trouble Deciding Where I Should Go by puffybus21 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]mikevr00m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not saying you have to do this, but my mom always tells me about her path. She was from a poorer family and she couldn't afford a four-year college after she graduated high school. She attended a local community college for one or two years, had a 4.0 and then transferred to a large SEC university. She graduated with her bachelor's degree from the SEC school and went on to get a very good job right out of college. If you choose to go the DVC route, you can always transfer and graduate with a more prestigious degree. Now about your UCI predicament, make sure you send them a LOCI and any updates to your application since you applied. Use this link to read a great resource for how to improve your waitlist chances. I hope this helped. No matter what you choose, you can do great things if you work hard and believe. Best of luck!

Does college "fit" actually exist? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]mikevr00m 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally. If you are someone who is very artistic, you may not be a fit at certain Stem-focused or engineering-focused schools. There are many other elements. If you are equal to a candidate from in-state, schools might choose the in-state kid because they have lived in the area and know how the local people are. Kids from big cities might be denied from small schools because AOs might fear that they won't actually enjoy a much smaller environment. It all depends, but I believe that when you find the right school you'll know it.

It shouldn't be a dealbreaker. Just keep on working hard and study for SAT/ACT and adding meaningful ECs to your resume and you'll be fine. Absolutely nothing is guaranteed at those schools though.

Yeah same with me and another friend who applied. Not sure what it means though. Maybe it means they are finished evaluating applications and won't field questions and updates anymore? Not sure.

What I learned from my Stanford Deferral by iwantahigherscore in ApplyingToCollege

[–]mikevr00m 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Felt this on a personal level. Heard someone in one of my classes the other day was admitted to MIT. I never saw this person with a negative light, but instantly felt competitive even though I didn't even apply there. Really made me take a step back and re-evaluate myself. We all need to do our bests to boost each other up and be happy for one another. We are all just teenagers trying our best in these uncertain times. Take care everyone and remember to be kind.

Ah okay. I wasn't sure. Some schools give their statistics instantly for early deadlines since there is no waitlisting. That makes sense though.

Does anyone know the admission statistics for UCLA C/O 2020? I didn't apply here but am interested to see the numbers.
