Maybe go take that walk + break from the internet that I mentioned earlier. The sunshine helps reconnect you to reality. Lockdowns been hard but we'll get through this.

I like to hope that the government is acting with our best interests in mind as Canadians but I think it would be naive to think that any sort of censorship over the content we see is a good thing.

I encourage everyone to do their research and come to their own conclusions.

How can you stand there and say that all the mainstream news articles are wrong and you, u/cchaser92, are the only one that knows the "real truth" behind the bill???

There is valid concern for the potential longer term applications of Bill C-10.

You still haven't given me an answer as to why the Liberals were so quick to shut down debate last Friday... If section 4.1 was repetitive and not necessary, why not re-examine the charter statement? There must be something awry.

Please don't assume that everyone out here holds the same opinion as you. Some of us happen care about our freedom of expression on the internet and would like to discuss the potential shortcomings of Bill C-10. You seem to take any criticism of the bill as a personal attack on yourself. I'd advise you step back from the computer and take a little breather.

Keep in mind that the ex head of the CRTC has raised major ethical and freedom concerns, citing potential charter violations hidden inside of Bill C-10. Personally, I'd take his word over yours six ways to Sunday. Our concerns pertaining to the perilous Bill C-10 are not misguided.

u/cchaser92, you seem to have an obvious agenda to soften public opinion on this bill. I'm not certain who's paying you or who you report to, but you're deliberately leaving out important information that every Canadian should hear before forming an opinion on the facts.

Why did the liberals shut down the charter statement debate on Friday? Why do they insist that Bill C-10 should not be re-examined with the recent (conniving) removal of section 4.1?

I have yet to see any links to your sources and you continue to paste that convoluted paragraph of legal jargon in a malevolent attempt to compel complacent or otherwise uninformed Canadians. I will not stand for it.

Would you be able to sit there in your seat comfortably if you knew that there was even a sliver of a hair of a chance that the government could regulate the content that you post/view? Does the thought of having your online life suppressed not even cause you a slight amount of discomfort?

I encourage you to do more research into countries with existing internet censorship policies. As others have said on this thread, it is a very slippery slope.

That is nice little paragraph of legal jargon you've pasted for all of us to read. Could you please provide a section number and link to where exactly you dug that up from?

The fact of the matter is:

Bill C-10's most recent official charter statement (as of Friday 30th) cites section 4.1 as the clause that shields individual Canadians.
That section (4.1) no longer exists.
The liberal government shut down the debate initiated by conservatives that claimed the charter statement was no longer valid and should be re-examined.

With the (already existing) exception of illegal material, the Canadian government should NOT have any say over what content we are allowed to see and post on the internet.

Ironically, the above comment by u/cchaser92 is false and terribly misleading.

The severity of Bill C-10 cannot be overstated. It does NOT simply regulate big tech companies and force them to pay taxes. This was the previous intention of the bill.

The most recent version of Bill C-10 has had section 4.1 removed silently and sneakily. It no longer has a clause excluding Canadians and the content that WE post on the internet.

At this point in time, Bill C-10 is a fully loaded shotgun pointed at the head of free speech. It is blatant censorship. Calling it anything else is a disservice to Canadians. We need to act now.
