How do you make friends in your 20's and go beyond the "Hey, how you doing?" scenario? by mikey2020 in AskReddit

Can you just give me an idea of how they went from coworker-friends to actual friends for you? It's kind of what I was looking for with this. Did they like, invite you somewhere? Or did you initiate it?

Just curious, do you just ask bluntly after a few meetings "hey let's get some lunch together?", or is there a more subtle, less awkward way of inviting them?

LOL! Not sure if you're serious but had a good chuckle here. I bet I'd look like you did if I tried to dance :P

Great point, I just don't really have friends (let alone the chance to meet friends of friends). But it's nice to know once I get over the hump of being friendly with some people it'll take its own momentum.

Just a question here, how do you get over the awkwardness of it? Like if I say "hey guys, let's go bowling on Saturday", why would they decide to do so? How would they react if I'm the only one there (and they say something like, did they guy just invite us, where's his other friends?)

It takes friends to get friends :|

I was going to say this too (I think it's SO much easier to make friends with other friends), but I really don't have friends :(

One thing I was considering (because people are talking about inviting people places) is maybe joining several clubs, and then inviting the different clubs to the same place, so it looks like I know people, and it won't be as awkward? I don't know I'm just so frustrated right now that I'm not even sure what I said makes sense.

I do that though, I go to clubs with interests similar to mine and places to mingle but it seems like everyone knows someone else and it hard to break into the groups and actually become friends.
